Voice of Slo-Pitch

Dave Weaver - Voice of Slo-Pitch

The local slo-pitch season is finally over as Corey's-Maple View Variety captured the Ladies A Championship title last Monday night under near perfect weather conditions.

Time to do a wrap up of the season.
My first venture started out before the season started as many slo-pitch players participated and donated in the A Gift From Abbygale Baseball Pool that I initiated.

The overall winner was Mark A. Smith while Kurt Vaughan was the runner-up. There were 10 other prizes handed out for top finishers, as well as 10 random prizes drawn. Smith also won the tool kit awarded on Father's Day weekend. Darryl Vandendriessche of the Gators won the four Blue Jays' tickets as well as the the clothing apparel from East Elgin Concrete, as well finished in seventh place out of the 140 entrants. Thanks to everyone!

This was a very successful year in Tillsonburg Slo-pitch. The Men's League featured two new playoff champions in Haines Roofing in A and Kekambas in B, while Corey's Restaurant repeated in C. The Ladies League crowned new champions in Corey's-Maple View in A while Energy Productions garnered B honours.

Thanks to both executives Chris Parker (a tireless worker) in Men's and to Heather Haley, Melissa Franschetto and the Ladies group.

All of those who umpired in Men's and to Troy Temple who was the only local that did Ladies. I'd be remiss to not mention our successful All-Star night hosted by J-Pet and Super Jeff! I think our local No. 1 slo-pitch fan is Carl Vyse, who attends slo-pitch on all five evenings every week. Perhaps we should put an engraved name plate above his favourite seat in the bleachers!

I'd like to close by saying that losses on the local diamonds are only felt for just a minute after the game, many I have met and played with suffered far greater losses. Condolensces to all that have lost a loved one!
