Senior Centre Singers' first mini concert features medley of songs

Jack Parker, manager of the Senior Centre Singers, welcomed everyone to their April 21st Mini Concert at the Tillsonburg Senior Centre, mentioning it was the 25th anniversary of the Centre, as it is today, and the 21st year of the Singers four-part harmony group, as it is today, with its 50 members.

A full-house audience of 100 people enjoyed a selection of songs including Singin' in the Rain, Riversong, Climb Ev'ry Mountain (Sound of Music), as well as songs from Les Miserables. There were also selections from Oklahoma, Lida Rose Barbershop Quartet (from The Music Man medley), and As Time Goes By (from Casablanca). Hymns included Take These Wings and Thanks Be to God.

Let There Be Peace on Earth was sung as the finale with the audience. The singsong involving the audience went well, said director Rachel Parker.

They also sang When Irish Eyes are Smiling, Edelweiss and Do- Re- Mi (from The Sound of Music, marking its 50th anniversary).

Everyone enjoyed the refreshments – cake, fruit, and coffee – following the concert, supplied by the Senior Centre.

Director Rachel Parker thanked pianist Carol Ferguson for all her efforts. She also thanked hubby Jack who is the 'Wind Beneath her Wings,' the Singers for their continuing dedication and the audience for all their support, Nancy Boutin from the Senior Centre office, and all who helped to make the concert a success.

She also gave thanks to the Almighty Father for giving their family of Singers the opportunity to sing and share their love of music and concern for peace in our world with everyone.

"We all missed daughter Stephanie Parker who usually sings a solo at all our concerts," said Rachel.

"Many in the audience commented they really enjoyed this smaller concert. It was a more intimate, spontaneous and more relaxed atmosphere. Hopefully we shall still be a singing group in fall 2015... and have a big Christmas Singsong in November. Time will tell."

Jack and Rachel Parker were presented a bouquet of cut flowers from the Senior Centre board of directors in appreciation of their volunteer work with the Singers.

"May God bless us all," director of singers Rachel Parker concluded.
