Proceeds from local play donated to Community Advocates Tillsonburg

Remember all that school mumbo jumbo? Turns out, it really couldn't hold a candle to the wisdom of Kindergarten.

A group of local amateur actors, from seniors to recent college graduates, many of whom had never acted on stage before, recently presented a dramatic presentation of Robert Fulgam's bestselling 1988 book All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten, and donated all the proceeds to Community Advocates Tillsonburg.

Although the cast was drawn together from all walks of life – professionals, farmers, trades people and homemakers – they learned together from the wit and wisdom of Fulgam's book.

Spurred on by director Eddy Broer, the intrepid performers mastered their lines. The stories resonated with the personal experiences of many in the production, from the shy little boy who insisted on playing a pig in Cinderella to the man who flies over Los Angeles in an aluminum chair and weather balloons, to the mother of the bride who graciously adapts to an unexpected disaster. Every story celebrated each person's uniqueness.

The first two performances were held in the Tillsonburg Christian Reformed Church, March 26-27, and both had capacity crowds of about 150.

Proceeds of $2,232 were donated on April 22 to Community Advocates Tillsonburg, which provides transportation for about 25-30 teens and adults with developmental disabilities in Tillsonburg.

"Transportation is our big project right now," said Patricia Benoit, who accepted the cheque on behalf of Community Advocates Tillsonburg.
