Month of May is packed with Legion activities

Jason Pankratz - Tillsonburg Legion

May is a busy an exciting upcoming month at Legion Branch 153!

Nearly each weekend has been booked for in-house activities or rented for private celebrations. Don’t miss our Super Spring Dance on Saturday, May 2nd. Our last couple of dances have been tons of fun with good attendance. Everyone dances their heart out to a great DJ who plays the favourite tunes. Even I have been known to cut the rug. Do people even say that anymore? Have they ever? So come out and shake a leg, do the watusi, move your groove thang or twerk… well maybe not. Yikes!

On May 16 we are having an Indoor Spring Yard Sale. You can purchase a table for $20 and sell all the goodies that you’ve decided to purge during your spring cleaning. Call our office now to book your table 519-842-5281. Bring neat stuff that is in good condition and will sell. This is not a product show or junk sale. The yard sale will be open to the public that Saturday from 8 a.m. until the early afternoon. Come sell and find some treasures!

Our community also has a rare and exciting opportunity to continue celebrating the 100th anniversary of WWI. On Friday, May 22 and Saturday, May 23 Annandale National Historic Site is presenting Jason Wilson and the Soldiers of Song. Hopefully you read the fantastic Tillsonburg News front page article. The show will be an enticing performance of historical, musical and comedic vaudeville. Come see a show that mirrors the acts performed during the war years. Hear the music and sing along. Enjoy the evening with laughs and stories and learn something too!

Tickets are available through Annandale NHS for $40. Call the museum at 519-842-2294 to purchase your tickets! The show will be presented at the Otter Valley Playhouse at 8 p.m. on the dates mentioned above. So where does the Legion come in? Not only are we a part of the advertising and community support of Annandale NHS and the show, we are also opening our Legion canteen late that night for people to come meet the performers after the performance. So buy a ticket, see the show and come to meet the cast and a celebratory beverage after the show!

Don’t forget about our end of the month dinners on April 24 and May 29. Eat in or take out for $12. It’s a great meal for a great price!

We’ll finish the busy month off on Saturday, May 30th, when our Branch is part of the Doors Open Oxford community tour. The theme of the tour is Oxford County Sports. Come into the Branch between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. and have a look at the number of trophies, plaques and pictures the Legion has in its collection. These pieces cover a large number of sports and teams that have been supported and sponsored by Tillsonburg Legion Branch 153 over the years. Have a look at our Legion sport history and see what the Legion is all about. Questions about current sports leagues (both official and recreational) will be answered as well as providing membership applications for those who are considering becoming active members.

See you in May down at the Legion!
