Tillsonburg Family Pet Centre U12s upset St. Thomas 4-3 last Sunday afternoon to win gold medals in the annual Tillsonburg Ringette TwisterFest tournament.

The Family Pet Centre U12s played three preliminary round games, and Sunday's 8-7 win over Elora-Fergus propelled them into the finals against St. Thomas, who had finished on top of the division.

"We played (St. Thomas) twice previously, but could never quite do it. I think they're undefeated in the league," said Family Pet Centre coach Shawn Lisabeth. "We played them in the very first game of the tournament and lost 5-2, so we knew what to expect. Their goalie is one of the best we've played.

"Today we finally capitalized on our chances. Our goalie held us in, their goalie held them in. Our defence played great and the forwards came to play – every girl we had did... it was a team effort."

The Family Pet Centre U12s hovered around the .500 mark in the first half of the Western Region ringette season, Lisabeth said they've been on fire in 2015.

"Since the Christmas break, the last few games and this tournament, the girls seemed to pick it up a notch."

If they stay at that level and keep winning, Lisabeth said he promised to let them shave his head.

"I might have a little fun," he smiled. "The girls played well this weekend – they came together as a team."
