Courtland man charged with racing in 50 km/h zone

An Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police officer observed a motorcycle travelling at an extremely high rate of speed on Rokeby Road, south of Tillsonburg, on Saturday, July 19.

Police observed the motorcycle travelling between speeds of 139 km/h and 149 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone. Based on observations and investigative steps taken by police, the driver, a 31-year-old Courtland man has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act.

Abe Epp has been charged with: Race a motor vehicle; and Drive motor vehicle – improper licence.

The vehicle was impounded for the prescribed seven-day period and his driver’s license was suspended for seven days.

OPP remind everyone that drivers who engage in high risk driving behavior put everyone at risk. Speeding makes it difficult for drivers and pedestrians to react to changes, stop suddenly and control a vehicle. In the case of a collision, the higher the speed, the more severe the collision and the more likely that serious injuries or death will occur.

OPP would also like to remind the motoring public to manage their time and respect all the rules of the road when travelling.
