The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment responded to an incident at a Woodstock Avenue, Long Point, on Saturday, May 31.

At approximately 6:14 p.m., the Norfolk County OPP, Norfolk County Fire Services and Norfolk County Paramedics responded to the Long Point Beach after receiving a call from a concerned citizen.

Through investigation, it was determined that four adults and one child all from Brampton had entered the water with a blow up raft. No lifesaving equipment was aboard the raft when it entered the water and the concerned member of the public immediately contacted police after noticing the occupants struggling to get back to shore.

Norfolk County Fire Services responded with a Zodiac water rescue boat and were able to assist with bringing the four adults and one child back to shore.

The OPP is warning anyone considering boating to be extremely cautious and understand the dangers of the water and to have all lifesaving equipment required by law at your disposal.

“Don’t take unnecessary risks with your life, or those whose job it is to save you,” said Constable Ed Sanchuk, Norfolk County OPP, in a media release.
