A 17-year-old Tillsonburg resident has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle-Perform Stunt-Speeding by 50 or more kilometres under the Highway Traffic act following an alleged incident along Highway #3 near the town.
Police allege a grey Ford Fusion was observed travelling eastbound Sunday, May 11 at approximately 6:21 p.m. at a speed of 141 KPH in a posted 80 KPH zone. A traffic stop was initiated by an Oxford OPP officer on general patrol and a 17-year-old male was charged.
The vehicle was impounded for a proscribed seven-day period and the driver’s licence was also suspended for seven days.
‘Near collision’ leads to impaired charge
A 37-year-old Norfolk man has been charged with impaired driving and driving over the legal limit after what Norfolk OPP describe as a ‘near collision’ with a patrolling officer in Courtland.
The alleged incident took place Saturday, May 10 at approximately 12:58 a.m. in the area of Talbot and Main Streets, when the officer was alleged to have ‘acted quickly in order to avoid a collision with another vehicle on the roadway.’
The vehicle was subsequently stopped along Main Street and as a result of investigation, the two aforementioned charges were laid.
He is to appear in Provincial Court, Simcoe at a later date to answer to the charges.
Vehicle stolen
A black 2010 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck has been reported stolen from a North Walsingham Townline Road, North Walsingham address.
On Saturday, May 10 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., unknowns attended the address and proceeded to remove the vehicle which was parked in driveway of the residence.
Norfolk OPP are seeking assistance from the public in their ongoing investigation. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, they are being asked to contact the Detachment at 1-888-310-1122.

Open invitation to open house
Norfolk OPP is extending an open invitation for the public to attend ‘Open House’ during Police Week.
Police Week begins Sunday May 11 and runs until Saturday May 17. Activities will focus on community and police efforts to heighten community awareness and promote collaboration.
This year’s theme, Building Community Partnerships, is inspired by Sir Robert Peel’s policing principle #7:
To maintain at all times a relationship with the public that gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and that the public are the police; the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen, in the interests of community welfare and existence.
A meet and greet with be held Thursday, May 15 between 12 noon and 8 p.m. the Norfolk County Detachment located at 548 Queensway W. The public is invited to come out and put faces to names.
The OPP will have several specialized units (including the A.T.V., Bicycle, Motorcycle and Marine and members from the Emergency Response Team) along with equipment on scene to answer questions. Members of the public will also have the opportunity to take a tour of the garage and cell area.
There will also be displays from Crime Stoppers and the Norfolk Community Policing Committee. A silent auction will also take place in order to raise funds for an OPP member in need of a liver transplant. All of the funds raised will go towards the costs associated for the donor and recipient for accommodations, meals and travel. Items on display will include sports memorabilia such as signed National Hockey League (NHL) hockey jerseys, photographs, hockey sticks, and other unique items.
