Week 17 Results - Playoffs

Tuesday, March 18

Corey’s Restaurant 7, Computer Station 4

Our 1st playoff game of the week was a dandy as Corey’s and Computer deadlocked at three apiece at the half. Computer even took the lead early in the 2nd but Corey’s would take control of the game with some solid goaltending and a stingy defence.

Leading the way for the Restaurant crew were Dimitri Papadakos, Ivan Hernandez and Joe Lopes all with two and a single from Terry Neudorf. Computer got a double from Garret Schuurman and singles by Nick Byrnes and Devin Schuurman.

Poultry Specialties 11, Pettman’s Auctioneers 10 OT

Our 2nd game was a barnburner as Poultry needed a golden goal to advance to the next round. It was even at the half at 4-4 and Poultry needed a late goal to tie it up at 10 before getting the golden goal five minutes into overtime.

Poultry’s scoring hero was Shaine Jansen getting the equalizer and the golden one. Steve Lavier led his team with four, followed by singles from Kasper Laugesen, Papa McClatchie, Cody Kraushaar and Trista Langrell. Auction’s big gunner was Gerrit Pellebeor with five, a Kurt Vanittersum hat trick and singles from Jared Pettman and Molson Page.

Courtland PPM 7, Cocreo 4

Day 2 of the playoffs featured our biggest upset as last place Courtland knocked off an A division squad. A short staffed Courtland team played their hearts out and goalie Mike Mesquita stood on his head leading the way to the next round. It was a surprising 4-0 1st half lead and an equal 2nd as Courtland’s Dan Oliveira led with three, followed by doubles from Stephan DeGroote and Laura Magashazi. Cocreo got two a piece from Shayne Tremblay and goalie Neil Puente. In all fairness to Cocreo, they really missed their leader Andy Metselaar away on holidays.

Tillson Pizza 3, Ontario Laser 0

Our 2nd game was a disappointing default as Laser failed to field a team.

DoneRight Landscaping 12, Poultry Specialties 4

It was all DoneRight and on all cylinders as they jumped out to an insurmountable 8-0 1st half lead. Poultry managed to score some in the 2nd but were just out hustled and over matched. Leading their attack were Mac Robinson and Don Evanitski with four apiece, followed by doubles from Eric Kok and Max Evanitski. Poultry got two from Cody Kraushaar and singles by Kasper Laugesen and Steve Lavier.

Verne’s Carpet One 9, Corey’s Restaurant 2

Verne’s proved why they finished 2nd overall but had to endure a close defensive 1st half as Corey’s held them to only a two-goal lead. The 2nd was mostly Verne’s as they stepped up their offensive power and the goals finally came in bunches.

Leading the attack was Brad Smale with the hat trick, followed by doubles from Justin Young and Tim Hua with singles from Aaron De Jong and Angela Rochus. Corey’s got goals from Joe Lopes and Rudi Leenaerts.
