Students participated in Pink Shirt Day. This is a day where all students are encouraged to wear pink and take a stand against bullying. This year a number of Grade 7 students took part in the organization of Pink Shirt Day and devoted many of their recess periods to creating presentations and displays shown throughout the school.

Sacred Heart School Fundraising Council has been hosting a series of movie nights. The most recent pre-DVD screening, Frozen, was a huge success. The gym was filled with families spending a night out at the movies.

The boys and girls participated in the basketball tournament. Both teams put forth their best effort and challenged their opponents with great sportsmanship. Unfortunately, neither team managed to bring back a pennant. In other sports, news, our school volleyball teams are being recruited for this year’s season with skill training each morning and tryouts in the afternoons. Both boys and girls have been very dedicated in their efforts and teams will be announced after the March Break.

As our Grade 8 students look towards the end of the school year and graduation, they are also preparing for their trip to Ottawa. They will be running an Elmira Chicken fundraiser to raise money for their trip.

This week, students were treated to a pancake lunch on Shrove Tuesday. Pancakes and sausages were prepared by a group of dedicated parents. We thank these volunteers for giving of their time and also for the delicious pancakes and sausages. The next day, we started the season of Lent by celebrating at mass together with Our Lady of Fatima School in Courtland.

We here at Sacred Heart School hope that the new year has started off well for you. As we are enjoying our March Break, hope that you too will have a good week.
