March 7

Annandale N.H.S. presents a Women's Day Lunch & Lecture from 12 noon until 2 p.m. Enjoy a four-course meal with a decadent dessert followed by a lecture on "Oxford's Woman of Infamy or The Lady Who Broke the American National Bank." Mary Gladwin, Archivist, County of Oxford, lecturer. Advance tickets only. Tickets are $30 each (includes HST). For more information call Annandale Museum at 519-842-2294.

Ecumenical World Day of Prayer Service at the Salvation Army Church (110 Concession St. West) beginning at 1:30 p.m. Program prepared by women of Egypt and music provided by the Tillsonburg Seniors Centre Singers. Freewill offering in support of women/children/families in distress in Canada and worldwide. Everyone welcome.

 

World Day of Prayer Service, 7 p.m. at Community of Christ, 54246 Eden Line at Culloden Rd. All are welcome to this ecumenical service prepared by the women of Egypt. Fellowship and refreshments to follow.

Tillsonburg Public Library ‘In-tents-ive’ PA program for ages 6-12. Camp out from 1-3 p.m. and enjoy some "in-tents" activities! Make your own Lego stop-motion animation on an iPad, try a Spin Bot or some Squishy Circuits, make a craft, or read a story to one of the therapy dogs from the Paws to Read program. Free, drop-in (no registration).

March 7, 10-14

St, Paul's United Church is offering a daytime “Wilderness Escape" for children ages 5-12, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The adventure starts on March 7, and continues March 10 to March 14. Explore the Sinai desert, meet Moses, go through the Red Sea, make lots of neat crafts, sing active, exciting songs and lots of other surprises in their own "tribe". Cost is $10 per day. Space is limited. Deadline for registration and payment is February 28. Sign up in person @ St, Paul's church at 88 Bidwell St. or call 519-688-0011 and ask for Karen.

March 8

The Tillsonburg Christian Men’s Fellowship will meet for breakfast along with their special ladies at the Eden Community Centre, on Eden Town Line just west of the main corner. Doors open at 8 a.m., program begins at 8:30 a.m. This month’s guest is from Teen Challenge. Come and hear what God can do in the lives of those who allow Him.

Wildlife in Winter at Backus, a guided hike featuring track interpretation and cast making. Program begins inside the education centre at 1 p.m., hike at 1:30 p.m. with outdoor educator Fiona Street. Admission is $2 per child, $4 per adult or $10 for a family.

March Break

March Break Madness for ages 5-12 at the Tillsonburg Station Arts Centre. Mad Science Monday, Ocean Crafts Tuesday, Youth Printmaking Wednesday, Youth Painting Thursday and Spring Into Spring Crafts Friday. Program runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., includes snack and juice, participants must bring a peanut-free lunch. Cost $30 per child per day, $140 for the week. Pre-registration required.

March 10

Otter Valley Naturalists meeting, 7 p.m. Annandale House. Tillsonburg Outdoor Perspectives: What do you see? OVN Member, David Baird of Tillsonburg provides a perspective into the development of observation and discovery while enjoying the out of doors.

March 11

Norfolk Field Naturalists meet at the Simcoe Srs. Centre (89 Pond Street) beginning at 7:30 p.m. Guest Speaker will be Don Scallen, speaking on ‘Highlights from a Naturalists's Life.’ Don is vice-president of the Halton/North Peel Naturalist Club and will hold forth on turtle tallying, silk moth rearing, and observing the breeding of Spotted and Jefferson salamanders in the spring.

March 12

Peace Lutheran Church is holding a Spring Break Bible School from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Come and enjoy bible lessons, singing, crafts, games and snacks. Call 519-842-8331 to register.

March 14

“Creating and Building Community Involvement” at the Tillsonburg Community Centre’s Lions Den beginning at 10 a.m. Please join “People First of Tillsonburg” in this important discussion to help create a more welcoming community. Contact Della at 519-842-6440 to register.

Community Breakfast at the Corinth Community of Christ, Culloden Road and Eden Line from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Proceeds to Straffordville and Port Burwell Public Schools Healthy Snack Programs.

Mt. Elgin United Church is hosting a Beef Stew Supper from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Mt Elgin Community Centre. Tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under, and free for pre-schoolers and available by calling 519-485-1988 or 519-485-3197.

Burford Tractor Club Meeting at 7.30 p.m. at Fairfield Church Hall. Guest speaker, everyone welcome.

March 21

Ham Bingo at the Brownsville Community Centre, beginning at 8 p.m. Chip bingo, 15 regular, five specials, $100 jackpot. Ham for each game. $2 entry fee includes one card.

March 22

Vienna Lions Club is having hosting its Perch Dinner, Dance and Silent Auction at the Vienna community center. Social 6 p.m., dinner 7 p.m. Contact any club member for tickets (couples $35, singles $20) on sale until Wed., Mar. 19th.

Langton Catholic Women's League Annual Rummage Sale at the Port Rowan Community Centre. Free admission, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Featuring flea market, book table, small appliances, clothing, toys, sports equipment and more.

Citizen of the Year

The Tillsonburg District Chamber of Commerce is welcoming nominations for the annual Citizen of the Year Award. The award is presented to an individual who makes an outstanding contribution to the community, with no expectation of personal gain. Volunteering of personal time and talent towards community betterment are hallmarks of the award. Nominees can be recommended either for outstanding contributions to the community in the past year, or over a number of years. Nomination forms are available from the TDCC (519-688-3737). Nominations received within the previous year will be re-considered for this year’s award. Deadline for nomination is Friday, March 28, 2014.

Imagine what it would be like to be unable to read and write. Become part of the solution as a volunteer tutor and help teach an adult how to read and write. Tutor-training workshop on March 22 and March 29, 2014. For more information, call Wendy Woodhouse at (519) 842-9008 ext. 266.

Tillsonburg Senior Centre Singers: directed by Rachel Parker, hold their annual Spring Concert of Broadway and contemporary tunes on Friday, May 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Lions Auditorium of the Tillsonburg Community Centre, Hardy Avenue. Tickets $12, avaiable from singers or at the Senior Centre (519-688-2520). Tillsonburg Senior Centre Singers, SATB Choir, share their love of music with the public and help those less fortunate in the world by donating a portion of ticket sales to Grandmothers to Grandmothers, connected to the Stephen Lewis Foundation (AIDS).
