Library a hot spot during cold weather

Article content

The library is a hotspot for activity during this cold, blustery February!

Children’s Programs

The library would like to offer a monthly storytime program for private family daycares, provided by our Program Services Coordinator, who happens to be a talented storyteller for children of all ages! The program would take place at North Broadway Baptist Church on the last Tuesday of each month. You and your students can enjoy 30 minutes of stories, songs, rhymes, and movement activities that will engage them in literacy in a new way. Registration is required so please contact Becky at bstark@ocl.net for more information or to register, or phone the library.

Teen Programs

During the entire month of February, teens are invited to submit photos (either printed copies or digital copies) that fit any of these subject categories (limit two submissions per person per category):

· Around Town – photos of unique Tillsonburg buildings/landmarks/places

· Flora & Fauna – photos of plants & animals

· Best use of Macro lens (close-up)

· Best black & white or sepia-tone

Prizes will be awarded by a panel of local judges. Contact the library to register or for more information.

The “Anti-Valentine’s” Day Party for teens ages 13 to 17 is happening on Friday, February 14. Dip your favourite treats in the chocolate fountain, make black duct tape roses, Snarky hearts, try the scavenger hunt, and watch a flick. The fun starts at 6:30 p.m., no registration required.

Adult Programs

The OCL Explorers Team will be out at Hickory Hills Community Centre on Saturday, February 15 at 10:30 a.m. to demonstrate online library services during their session “Navigating OCL.net”. This is a great opportunity to learn more about some of the library’s resources, so don’t miss it. For more information, please contact a member of the Explorers team by emailing explorers@ocl.net.

Learn about the importance of automatic defibrillators in our community, and see how they work. Susan White of Oxford Public Health will be here on Wednesday, February 19 at 6:30 p.m. to provide you with key information that could help you save a life. Please register for this program by phoning the library.

We’re excited to have Laurel Beechey join us once again for part two of her local history series: Tombstone Tales: 4 Families in the Pioneer Graveyard. Join us on Thursday, February 20 at 7:00 p.m. No registration required, all are welcome!

And a reminder, if you’re having trouble with your technology (gadgets, laptops, eReaders and more), contact the library to make an appointment with our resident tech guru, Symone. She is available Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 4:30-8:30 p.m., or Saturdays from 9:30-4:30 p.m.

For additional information on any of our programs or services, check out the library’s calendar at www.ocl.net, or phone the library at 519-842-5571.
