Texting for seniors
Article content
Do you text? Do you know all the lingo, the abbreviations?
Well, if you do you are way ahead of me. My cell phone, which I am sure has much more capabilities than I am aware of, is used only to make phone calls out and accept phone calls, and those rarely. Very few people have my cell phone number and I use it only for emergencies. I just can’t understand why anyone would want to be that accessible to everyone all the time. But that’s just me.
I was really glad I had a cell phone on Christmas Eve when I had van trouble on the way to midnight Mass. Not much is open at 11:30 p.m. and I thank God for friends. If I am not home I turn it on so Morgan can find me. I can’t ever get a hold of him because he has unlimited texting but never has talking minutes. Do you think that’s the plan?
I can’t get used to the spelling inaccuracies and short forms which texters seem to adopt. And it’s everywhere. Everything is condensed to initials. Even in church we don’t sing from the Catholic Book of Worship, it’s the CBW. It doesn’t even save time. It drives me crazy but that’s just me.
Got this email a while back and it speaks to these truncations.
