DECEMBER

December 13

Tillsonburg Gemini Junior Boys Basketball Classic. Eight-team draw featuring Glendale, St. Mary’s, Stratford Northwestern, Huron Park, Ingersoll, Laurier, Strathory and London Central. Glendale opens draw at 4 p.m. against St. Mary’s in the Community Gym. Finals begin Saturday at 3 p.m. with championship game at 7:30 p.m.

Wagner Memorial Legion: in Teeterville will be holding its ‘Wampus Cat’ (Chicken Wing) supper, serving from 6-9 p.m. Cost: $13 per plate which includes 2 pounds of wings fries and veggies. Everyone welcome. For further information call the Legion at 519-443-5588.

Annual Delhi Knights of Columbus Turkey Raffle at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Delhi. Everyone welcome, doors open at 7 p.m.

December 14

Straffordville Santa Claus Parade begins at 10:30 a.m. from the public school.

Langton Santa Claus Parade begins at 11 a.m. from the arena/community centre.

The Tillsonburg Christian Men’s Fellowship: – and their special ladies - will meet for breakfast and fellowship at the Eden Community Centre beginning at 7 a.m. Guest music provided by Larry Stoffer. Program begins at 7:30 a.m. Come and hear what God can do in the lives of those who allow him.

A Holly Jolly Christmas at the Library: Holiday Storytime 11 a.m.-noon (for ages 0-6). Join us for interactive Christmas songs, stories and a craft specially designed for wee ones. Family movie 1-3 p.m. (for all ages). We will be showing a Christmas-themed movie based on a popular children's story. Christmas Make ‘n Takes 3-4 p.m. (for all ages). Decorate your own Christmas sugar cookie and create a fun Christmas craft to take home.

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 79 Simcoe presents Dan Fewings & The Three Martinis: music, comedy, improv. Show tickets available $15, show opens at 8 p.m. For more information, call 519-426-3804 or 419-427-8787.

December 14, 21

The Wagner Memorial Legion: in Teeterville will be holding its Turkey Shoots & Raffles on back-to-back-to-back Saturdays. Shoots start at 12:30 p.m. Raffles start at 8 p.m. No modified chokes please. Everyone welcome. For further information call the Legion at 519-443-5588.

December 15

St. John’s Anglican Church: (Bidwell & Ridout Streets) will present a live performance reading of “A Christmas Carol” with special guest Stephen Bourne. Followed by refreshments and carol singing. Begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets $10 each or $25 for a family of 3 or more. For tickets call the church office at 519-842-5573.

December 20

PA Day Program: Lego Fest at the Tillsonburg Public Library from 1-3 p.m. for ages 6-12. Lego Creation Contest, Iron Chef-style Building Competitions, Lego Mindstorm demonstration, prizes, and a free-play Lego station. Register at the library or by phone starting Dec. 1. In preparation for this and more Lego-related events, the library is now accepting donations of clean, gently-used Lego! Drop it off at the library check-out desk any time.

The Tillsonburg Skating Club will be holding its annual Holiday Showcase at the Tillsonburg Community Centre (Kinsmen/Memorial Arena). Celebrate the season by joining us for a festive evening of skating! Doors open at 6 p.m. with Show time 6:30- 8:30 p.m. Minimal admission.

December 31

New Year's Celebrations in downtown Tillsonburg, culminating at the clock tower for a midnight countdown into the new year, celebrated with a fireworks show. The evening features public skating until 10 p.m. when events begin downtown. Free hot chocolate, apple cider, music, dancing, a warming station and activities for all ages.

JANUARY

January 1

The Royal Canadian Legion in Tillsonburg invites everyone to share New Year’s Day afternoon and ‘Happy New Year’ salutations at the President's Levee. Freewill donation only. Moose milk and clam chowder. Cash bar. DJ and dancing. Light luncheon later. Wheelchair access. 12 noon to 6 p.m. at the legion.

January 7

The Tillsonburg Horticultural Society meets in the Senior Centre Auditorium at the Tillsonburg Community Centre for its first general meeting of 2014, starting at 7:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Lynn Bisschop from Shades of Green south of Aylmer talking about Hostas and Lilies. An annual membership in the Horticultural Society is $15. Memberships for 2014 will be available at the meeting.

Alzheimer Society of Oxford offers individual support, information sessions and support groups in Oxford County for people with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias and their family members and friends.
