December is 'Food for Fines' month at the Tillsonburg Library

Libary Lane

By Sydnie Lane

The holiday season is here, and the Tillsonburg Branch of the Oxford County Library is asking you to support your neighbours in need.

Throughout the month of December, we will be collecting items for the Helping Hand food bank as payment for late fines. These can be non-perishable food items, such as canned meats, school snacks, pasta, or cereal, or non-food items such as toilet paper and tissues. We will also be accepting regular cash payments, and these proceeds will also be donated to local food banks. If you have any late fines, this is a great way to clear up your account. Please note that some exceptions do apply, so please speak to library staff for more details.

We’ve got lots happening at the library in the month of December!

Our Laughter Yoga series is continuing on Tuesday nights until Dec. 17. Bring a friend and learn to laugh your stress away!

We will be continuing our Monday Film Series through December as well, and you can catch some great flicks on the 2nd, 9th, and 16th. Showtime is 1 p.m. Contact the library to find out the titles.

Join us for our Holiday Cheer Coffee House on Thursday, Dec. 12. Poets, singers, musicians, and entertainers of all kind are welcome to showcase their talents at this drop-in event.

We will be hosting a Holly Jolly Christmas at the Library on Saturday, Dec. 14, with activities for all ages! We’ll be screening a film, making Christmas crafts, and decorating sugar cookies. Check our website to find out the times of each event on what promises to be a fun-filled day!

Lego Fest is coming to the library on Friday, Dec. 20. There is both a Lego creation contest and an Iron Chef-style competition. This is a registered program, so please contact the library for more information and to register your child. In preparation for this and more Lego-related events, the library is now accepting donations of clean, gently-used Lego. Drop it off at the library check-out desk any time.

For more information on any of our programs, please visit the library’s website at www.ocl.net.
