Tillsonburg Kinsmen midgets shut out Aylmer

Tillsonburg Kinsmen Tornadoes midget goalie Tyler Gubesch had a light night in net Wednesday night.

The Kinsmen shut out Aylmer 2-0 in a Southern Counties minor hockey game that saw Tillsonburg outshoot the visitors by a 2-1 margin. Gubesch stopped a dozen shots in the win.

Both teams were playing with short benches. With five players not in the lineup Wednesday, three serving suspsensions, the Tornadoes were just as short a night earlier in a 4-1 loss to St. George.

"Probably a little tired from last night," said Kinsmen assistant coach Paul Groeneveld. "Not our best game, but not our worst game."

Scoreless through the first period, Zach Schonberger scored Tillsonburg's game-winner midway through the second, short-handed, with Aylmer failing to connect on its five-on-three power play.

Liam Spencer added insurance late in the third, eluding a check on the right wing to score with a low wrist shot inside the far left post.

The Kinsmen midgets, who are in Waterford Saturday, have six more Southern Counties games in December leading up to their Silver Stick tournament in Pelham, Dec. 27-29.

Tillsonburg 2, Aylmer 0

Tillsonburg scoring: 1. Zach Schonberger (Evan Curtis); 2. Liam Spencer (Jordan Spitzke).
