Impaired driver collides with house

At approximately 8:03 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, members of Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision between a motor vehicle and a residence located on Highway 2 in Norwich Township.

The motor vehicle collided with the front of the garage, travelling through the rear of the garage coming to a stop in the back yard of the residence.

As a result of the collision and investigation, police have charged a 66-year-old Blanford Blenheim Township man under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following:

· Driving While Ability Impaired Cause Bodily Harm (Motor Vehicle/Alcohol)

· Driving with More than 80 Milligrams Blood Alcohol in Blood

The home owner was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The male is being held for a bail hearing and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Woodstock.

 

Home Security

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment want to remind all Norfolk County resident’s about home security after police were contacted by a concerned homeowner at a Hazen Road, North Walsingham address.

On Thursday, November 21, at approximately 6:30 p.m., a homeowner contacted police after arriving home and noticing a suspicious red coloured vehicle that was parked in the driveway of their residence. The homeowner observed the vehicle drive up to their barn on the property and stop.

Two males exited the vehicle at which time the homeowner confronted the males who continued to walk around the property without stopping. The males fled back to their vehicle after the homeowner’s dog was observed. The vehicle then fled from the driveway was last seen travelling on Hazen Road.

The vehicle is being described as a red-coloured Honda with no licence plates on the front or rear of the vehicle. The males are described as being dressed in dark-coloured clothing.

The OPP would like to take this opportunity to remind all residents of the importance of locking all windows and doors to residences, barns, turning on lights and keeping a watch for suspicious persons and vehicles.

If you see suspicious persons or vehicles, try to obtain as much detail as you can, write down the person(s) description, the type of vehicle they are driving and the licence plate number. Then, don’t delay, call the police and report it 1-888-310-1122 will put you in contact with the nearest OPP Communications Centre to report the activity. *OPP (*677) on your cellular will also work.

Lock it or Lose it in Delhi

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment assisted the Delhi Community Policing Committee and students from Delhi Secondary District High School with a Lock It or Lose It program in Delhi.

On Saturday, Nov. 16, members of the OPP, Delhi Community Policing Committee and students from Delhi District Secondary School attended various areas of the Delhi community where they checked 347 vehicles. They found 211 vehicles were secured... six vehicles with the window open... six vehicles with the keys in the ignition... and 29 vehicles unlocked.

Also, 95 vehicles had valuables visible in the front seat including purses, GPS units, change, alcohol, iPods, iPhones, cheques, prescription medication and a laptop computer.

The OPP want to remind everyone that if you can’t take the items with you, please put them out of sight.

“This is an opportunity for our community residents to be involved with proactive prevention before someone becomes another statistic of stolen property from a motor vehicle,” said Constable Ed Sanchuk, Norfolk County OPP, in a media release.
