Movember almost over

Article content

That’s right, November is almost over, which means Movember is just about over too! You don’t have much time to send in your donations for our three staff members participating in Movember: Mr. King (custodian), Mr. Good (Grade 7 teacher) and Mr. Henry (Grade 7/8 teacher). Your donations will go towards finding a cure for prostate cancer!

The Santa Claus Parade was last weekend. We saw many students having an awesome time! And speaking of Christmas, it’s only 36 days away. And Christmas break is only 30 days away! Time is flying by at O’Neil.

We had a great spirit day last Friday organized by our student parliament: Sports Jersey Day!

Lots of staff and students dressed in their favourite sports jerseys, including professional and local team sports.

And we hope you’ve been sending in your forms for the amazing deals at O’Neil. Poinsettia orders ended today. Hope you didn’t forget to purchase these beautiful Christmas flowers. Another order you have to send in is the apple order form. You can get a 10-pound bag of apples for just $10! Your choices are Empire, Cortland, McIntosh, and Royal Gala. The orders are due this Friday, so get your apples now. If you have purchased either apples or flowers, they will be delivered to the school on December 2nd.

And more exciting news: starting this week, our intermediate hockey team hits the ice. Next Thursday and Friday they will be competing in a tournament. Good luck, Knights!

Next Tuesday, students will be visiting St. Mary’s High School to watch a Cinderella play. The students are very excited to see this performance!

And of course, it’s getting to that time of year – the flu season. It is recommended you and your family receive flu shots to reduce your risk of getting sick. But, some people do get sick regardless. If your child has symptoms of the flu, we suggest you keep them at home for a few days. The flu is very infectious and we don’t want other staff and students getting sick.

Finally – dress for the weather! It’s starting to get very cold outside, so we suggest you dress appropriately for the current weather. Keep warm and safe this winter season!

November 13

We are halfway through November, which means we are half way through our "MO"VEMBER fundraiser! Mr. Good, Mr.Henry, and Mr. King are well on their way in their race for the biggest mustache. It's never too late to donate to this worthy cause.... all proceeds go to Prostate Cancer research.

Last week, our Grade 5s rolled clay for their Holy Family Nativity: Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus. This year, our Grade 6s got to add to their Holy Family Nativity from last year by making the Three Wise Men from clay. It was a great lead-in to the coming Advent season, and thank you to guest artist Karina Viovy for coming out and working with our Grade 5 and 6 classes.

Also last week, we had our annual Christmas Book Fair! Mrs. Plumb, our School Librarian, was very busy with the book sales. There were lots of books and gifts to choose from, and everyone enjoyed shopping at the Book Fair.

Last week, Grade 8 students went to High School for a day! Since Grade 8s are in their final year, we got to spend a day in the life of a High School Student. We went to St. Mary's and had an awesome day going to classes and learning what to expect when we start Grade 9 next year.
