Owl Prowl at Backus should be a real hoot

Article content

Backus Heritage Conservation Area is once again hosting its popular Owl Prowl program on Saturday, Dec. 7.

Discover how to identify owls while on this early winter night hike into the forest. Learn about native Ontario owls and their amazing nocturnal adaptations through an owl-themed craft activity, engaging multimedia presentation, owl pellets, and a moonlit guided hike to call for owls. A screech or great-horned owl might even call back.

The Owl Prowl program starts at 5 p.m. in the Conservation Education Centre with an activity for children followed by an informative presentation at 5:30 p.m. and the guided walk at 6 p.m.

Admission for the Owl Prowl program is $2 per child, $4 per adult, or $10 for a family. Pre-registration is recommended as spaces are limited. Dress for the weather and bring a flashlight.

Call Outdoor Educator Fiona Street at 519-586-2201, Ext 5 for more information on the program and to register.

Backus Heritage Conservation Area (www.lprca.on.ca) is located on Second Concession Road, 2 kilometres north of Port Rowan.
