DeGroote-Hill donates to Delhi Community Health Centre's Phase 3 expansion

The Delhi Community Health Centre is a community-owned, non-profit organization dedicated to providing quality health care to Delhi and surrounding areas.

"We are what we would call the envy of small-town Ontario," said Rick Travale, chair of the Delhi Community Health Centre Phase 3 expansion fundraising committee. "People cannot believe what we have. We have three walk-in clinics a week – almost unheard of."

"It's a community-owned facility," said Joe Adam, co-chair of the Phase 3 fundraising committee. "Most medical centres are privately owned, often owned by the doctors.

"Rick and I were on the original fundraising committee when they built the health centre 10 years ago, and I think it was a $1.3 million project. We had one doctor at that time."

An additional $300,000 expansion took place 3-4 years ago, said Travale.

"They bought a couple of pieces of adjacent property and now this Phase 3 project is going to bring all of that together," said Adam.

On Wednesday, Nov. 13, Reme DeGroote and Gord Hill of DeGroote-Hill Chevrolet Buick GMC Ltd., east of Tillsonburg on Highway 3, donated $1,000 to the Phase 3 expansion, presenting a cheque to Travale and Adam.

"This is a donation for the Delhi Community Health Centre, Phase 3 expansion, which is a $1.5 million project," said Adam. "The expansion will add medical services - chiropractic and phsyio - additional seniors support, facilities for another new doctor... a variety of uses."

"Not only room for doctor growth, which is something we're very proud of," said Travale, noting they now have nine doctors, but also improved diagnostics and new living accommodations for interns. "It's also going to enhance the services that we can provide."

Serving western Norfolk County, which borders Tillsonburg, Adam said a number of Tillsonburg residents use the Delhi Community Health Centre.
