Senior Centre Singers Christmas Concert

The Tillsonburg Senior Centre Singers celebrated the season in their unique musical style Friday evening in front of a full house inside the Lion’s Auditorium, with their annual Christmas concert. The aural ensemble featured hymns including Follow The Star and When A Child Is Born; lay pieces such as No Place Like Home For The Holidays and Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree; and popular tunes including Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, not to mention a popular audience participation sing-along segment. A portion of proceeds from each ticket sold supports Grandmothers to Grandmothers, a Stephen Lewis Foundation initiative battling AIDS and its effects in Africa. In its 19-year history, the concert has donated over $20,000 to that organization. Even as director Rachel Parker relaxed her arms, pianist Shelley Vermeersch’s talented digits tinkled the ivory one last time and the final notes of We Wish You A Merry Christmas faded into the November evening, singers began mentally preparing for their 20th season, and the Spring Concert scheduled for May 2, 2014 featuring Broadway tunes and contemporary pieces.
