OCTOBER

October 30

Halloween Tea at St. John's Anglican Church, Tillsonburg. Bring your friends and join us on Wednesday, Oct. 30 for tea and specially prepared Halloween goodies. Costumes are welcome, but not required. Serving: 1-3 p.m. Admission at the door is $6. All proceeds to the Alzheimer Society.

Teens-only Halloween Party, 7-10 p.m., at the Tillsonburg Library for ages 13-17 only! Costume contest, pumpkin design station, balloon battle, pumpkin golf, Halloween trivia and a classic movie: The Goonies. (Please be aware that since this program runs until 10 p.m., we ask that for safety reasons teens arrange for rides home). Free, but space is limited! register at the library or by phone 519-842-5571.

Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital is hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm in the hospital cafeteria. All off-site and on-site volunteers are welcome to attend. Thank you to all of our great volunteers.

NOVEMBER

November 2

Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School is hosting its 43rd Annual Turkey Bingo on Saturday November 2, 2013. The bingo will take place at 276 Main Street in Courtland at the Courtland Community Centre. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the Turkey Bingo will start at 7 p.m. Turkey Bingo will be an exciting night of cash prizes, door prizes, a bingo bazaar, food, free coffee and nine turkeys! A total of 12 games will be played. All bingos have a cash prize and a turkey up for grabs. There will also be a share the wealth bingo and a winner takes all bingo. Money raised will go towards purchasing, updating and maintaining the school's playground area.

"Karing for Kelly Fundraiser" Christmas is coming. Come on out to North Broadway Church, 6 North St. from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and see many home party consultants and experience a yummy bake sale. Tupper, Scentsy, Grace Adele, Nana's Pantry, 31 Gifts, Avon, Pampered Chef, Sunset Gourmet, Arbonne, Epicure and many more! Entrance fee is donation request only.

November 3

The Sacred Heart Langton Catholic Women's League is holding its annual Chicken Supper at the Langton Community Centre on November 3 from 5-7 p.m. Adults $15, children 12-and-under $5, pre-schoolers $2. Takeout available at the door. No phone calls please. Everyone welcome. Please come out and have a delicious home-cooked meal.

Avondale United Church Tillsonburg is having a Roast Beef Supper, Sunday, Nov. 3, from 4:30-6 p.m. Adults $15, children 6-12 $7, and under-5 free. Takeout is available. For tickets call Vern Reynolds 519-842-2465, Jack Whitmore 519-842-8630 or the church office 519-842-5532.

November 5

The Tillsonburg Horticultural Society will meet in the Senior Centre Auditorium at the Tillsonburg Community Centre for their November General Meeting starting at 7:30 p.m. This month's much-anticipated guest speaker will be Paul Zammit, Director of Horticulture at the Toronto Botanical Gardens. Paul will talk about Winter Container Arranging. Annual memberships for 2014 will be available at a cost of $15. For those attending just this meeting, the admission fee is $2. Everyone welcome. Operation Christmas Child Packing Party at Tillsonburg Alliance Church from 6:30-8 p.m. Bring your family and fill a shoebox for kids in need. Donations including hygiene products, books, toys, pencils, etc. can be dropped off at the church prior to the event.

November 9

St. Mary's CWL ‘Mistletoe Magic’ Christmas Bazaar

Please come out and join us for our annual 'Mistletoe Magic' Christmas Bazaar from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at St. Mary's Church Hall and right next door at the Father Langan Parish Centre, located at the corner of Rolph and Venison Streets. Outdoor crafts and greenery, fresh produce and preserves, collectibles and Christmas decor tables, used books and toy store, knitting and sewing store. Silent auction, Grand Draw, bake table. Plan to join us for lunch, located in the Bistro, in the Church Hall. Adults, $7 children under-10, $3, coffee and dessert $3. Admission to the Bazaar is free.

St. John’s Anglican Church (46 Ridout St. W.) will be hosting its annual Christmas Bazaar from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Featuring festive trays, our famous mincemeat, granny’s attic, crafts, penny sale table, bake table, gift basket table and a raffle featuring a Christmas quilt, local artwork, and a hand-made doll cradle. Tea room featuring sandwiches, pickle trays, Christmas treats, coffee, tea and cold drinks. Free admission, tea room tickets $5 (children six-and-under free). Penny sale table and raffle draws held between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The Houghton Men's Breakfast Club will meet at the

Mission church on County Rd. 28, just south of Frogmore at 8:00 a.m. Guest speaker will be Adam Liefl of ‘My FM 98.9’ Simcoe. Pastor Paul Robinson will also share a short reflection. All men are invited to this ecumenical gathering. Contact 519-875-2279 for further information.

Avondale United Church Women will be hosting an Autumn Luncheon and Bake Sale, Saturday, Nov. 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Admission is $8. Door prizes to be won.

Christmas Craft Sale at the Tillsonburg Library from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission via donation to the Helping Hand Food Bank. Displays of homemade crafts for sale, option to special order in time for Christmas.

November 10

Mt. Elgin United Church is hosting 'A Taste of Country Kitchen' at the Mt. Elgin Community Center. The event will run from 1-4:30 p.m. with a variety of vendors present. Get your holiday shopping and decorating done in one stop! Admission $2 at the door.

The Black Family, Old Time Fiddle Music at St. Paul’s United Church beginning at 2:30 p.m. Adults $15, Children (12 and under) $5, Infants free. Chuckwagon supper to follow, with free will offering accepted. Hosted by the AOTS Men’s Club, with tickets available from the church office (519-688-0011), Coward Pharmacy or any AOTS Men’s Club member.

November 11

Otter Valley Naturalists meeting at 7 p.m. at Port Burwell Public School. Speaker: Darren Unger on personal experiences, interesting species and unique wetlands in Southwestern Ontario.

November 12

Norfolk Field Naturalists meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Simcoe Seniors Centre. Speaker: Dr. Todd Morris – Ontario's Freshwater Mussels. Through the use of underwater video footage, we will dive into the world of one of North America's most endangered groups.

November 13

Cultus United Church annual turkey supper serving at Port Rowan Community Centre from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Adults $13, children 6 to 12 years $5, preschoolers free. Take out available. For more information call 519-875-2221.

Brownsville Historical Society Remembrance Day special meeting beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Hall. A special guest speaker will recall military memories. Refreshments to follow.

November 15

Tillsonburg Senior Centre Singers Christmas Concert inside the Lion’s Auditorium, celebrating the love of music, the Lord’s birth and the spirit of the Christmas season, while heralding the arrival of the Tillsonburg Country Christmas Festival. Tickets $12, available from singers of the Tillsonburg Senior Centre office: 519-688-2520. A portion of ticket sales goes to Grandmothers to Grandmothers, a Stephen Lewis foundation. The singers are directed by Rachel Parker, managed by Jack Parker and accompanied by pianist Shelley Vermeersch.

Tillsonburg Kiwanis Santa Clause Parade, downtown Tillsonburg, 2 p.m.

The Eden and Area Community Centre invites you to a Roast Beef Supper from 5-7 p.m. Adult advance tickets are $12. At the door $15. Tickets for children are $5 for 10-and-under. Tickets can be purchased from members, and at the Eden Store, or call 519-866-3664.

Indoor Yard Sale in the Tillsonburg Legion hall from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come as a customer or a vendor or support the Legion by donating items for sale. $10 per table for vendors. Christmas In The Country Christmas Bazaar from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. inside the St. Williams Community Centre. Cabbage rolls, penny table, bake table, bird seed, Benko dog treats, plant sale featuring Christmas urns as well as wildgrasses, hostas and herbs. Lunches served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Welcome Back to Otterville 17th Annual Studio Tour from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. both days. Come to the historic village of Otterville and visit the studios of local artists and crafters and browse through unique shops. This is an event sponsored by the South Norwich Historical Society (non profit). The next meeting of the Tillsonburg & District Historical Society will be held in the Program Room, 2nd Floor, Annandale House at 7 p.m. Guest Speaker will be Whitney Lackenbauer talking about "Aboriginal Peoples and War." Refreshments to follow. Everyone welcome!

Bethlehem Walk - the story never gets old! Walk to Bethlehem and see the angels, interact with the shepherds, wise men, Mary and Joseph, and the Roman soldiers, enjoy the sights and sounds of the market - a family tradition for all ages. At the Eden and Area Community Centre join us for Breakfast between 8-10:30 a.m. At a cost of $5 for adults and $3 for children under 10. Then, come to our Christmas Bake Sale from 8-11 a.m. and buy some of the great variety of delicious Christmas basked goods.

December 8

Celebrate Christmas in Song. Join the Ingersoll Choral Society as we host a congregational carol sing featuring choir and guest performances, 7:30 p.m. at St. James Anglican Church, Ingersoll. Free will offering, with proceeds going to the Ingersoll & District Inter-Church Relief Fund.
