Sunday, September 22

St Paul’s Port Burwell/Vienna United Church

The congregation met on at 11 a.m. with Rev. Cordell Parsons leading the service.

The service opened with Rev. Parsons leading the congregation prayer.

The first hymn was I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say.

The call to worship was led by Rev. Parsons and responded to by the congregation.

The opening prayer was led by Rev. Parsons and repeated by the congregation.

The next hymn was Creating God We Give You Thanks.

The sung response was Let There Be Peace On Earth.

The Lord’s Prayer was led by Rev. Parsons and repeated by the congregation.

The scripture reading was taken from Deuteronomy 20:8-11 in which Moses is speaking to the people about how God helped the people and rescued them from Egypt where they were not being treated very well. Moses also spoke about a soldier not having been brave enough to fight in the wars of the time and that if that soldier felt afraid he should go home rather than try to fight in a war in which he will destroy the morale of the other soldiers.

No guarantee of success or immunity from the struggle. As Moses wanted the people of Israel to understand and appreciate, as they struggled to understand the ways of the world and as they struggled to grasp the place of God in their lives, in the midst of their uncertainty and fear the joy comes in the realization that they are not alone.

Rev. Parsons led the congregation in the choral call to prayer.

The final hymn was There is a Balm in the Gilead.

Next Sunday service will be at 9:30 a.m. in Straffordville and at 11 a.m. in Port Burwell. Everyone is invited to attend either of the services and share in worship.

Sunday, October 6th will be the 103rd anniversary of the St. Paul’s Port Burwell/Vienna United Church and there will be a combined service in Port Burwell church with special guest singers and music. We invite everyone to attend and worship and celebrate the anniversary at 11 a.m. in Port Burwell.

Langton Baptist Church

Guest speaker Bret Maukonen opened the church service at 11 a.m.

His message was on ‘Imagine the church as a body. The church means people. The church is a body, fearfully and wonderfully made. We take so much for granted. We do things automatically and ask the Lord to bless us and see where God is working.

Chris is the living head of the body of the church and Jesus continues to build His church. Chris nourishes and cherishes the church.

We are members one of another, and we are called to have an attitude that is Christ like.’ Prayer followed.

The children’s story was on ‘Simon says, as we do complex things. It involves parts of our body. How wonderfully made we are.’

Hymns sung, were: To All The Saints, Jesus The Very Thought Of Thee, and Jesus Loves My Soul, with Jacob Morris controlling the sound system.

Scripture reading, was: 1 Corinthians 12:12-20.

Prayers of supplication and praise were given by Bret Maukonen.

Offering was received by Barbra Sinnesael and Kim Fasseel.
