Crash victim 'always did the right thing'

Matthew Storey was a fun-loving, hardworking man with strong morals and a long-time girlfriend.

“He always did the right thing,” said Storey's older brother, David, about the 22-year-old who died following a car crash on Salford Road in South-West Oxford early Saturday morning.

Storey was headed home to Burgessville after driving his girlfriend to work in London when his car went off the road and struck a large commercial vehicle parked in front of a business.

“It was really bad weather and he didn't want her to go alone,” said David Storey.

The couple was talking about getting married soon.

Extricated from his vehicle by Mt. Elgin firefighters, Storey was transported to Alexandra Hospital in Ingersoll where he succumbed to his injuries.

Describing him as “an excellent driver who knew the roads,” David Storey said his brother was wearing his seat belt when the tragedy occurred.

Storey, who is the son of Ted and Ruth Storey of Burgessville, worked for C and A Concrete in Burgessville, often putting in 12-hour days.

A graduate of Norwich District High School, he played hockey, rode motorcycles and was a martial arts enthusiast.

“He and I worked out together all the time,” said David Storey.

Loving the outdoors, Storey also enjoyed fishing and camping.

“He always joked around, a really fun guy,” said David Storey about his brother's personality. “He had a lot of friends in the area.”
