Severe thunderstorm warning for: Woodstock - Tillsonburg - Oxford County continued

At 8:30 PM EDT, meteorologists are tracking an area of severe thunderstorms stretching from Lake St Clair to Kitchener and tracking slowly eastward. Two or three rounds of thunderstorms with very heavy downpours are expected to roll through the regions over the next few hours giving local rainfall amounts of 50 to 100 mm. Large hail and damaging winds may also be associated.

Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.

Local downpours can cause flash floods.

Avoid driving through water on roads. Even shallow fast moving water across a road can sweep a vehicle away. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.

Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes.

Tornado warning ended in Oxford and Brant Counties.

 

Environment Canada has issued storm/tornado warnings for Woodstock, Tillsonburg and Oxford County areas at 5:56 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013.

Brantford - County of Brant

Severe thunderstorm warning for: Brantford - County of Brant continued

At 5:25 PM EDT, meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms extending from London to Hamilton. Individual storms are tracking northeast at 60 km/h while the line moves slowly southeast at 20 km/h. These thunderstorms are capable of producing torrential downpours, damaging winds and large hail. There is also the risk of a tornado.

Woodstock

Paris

Brantford

Hamilton

Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.

Strong wind gusts and hail can damage property and cause injuries. Local downpours can cause flash floods.

Go indoors and move away from windows and skylights. Avoid areas of the building that could be affected by falling debris such as tree limbs. Stay on the lower floor of your home or building and if the storm is particularly severe go to the basement.

Avoid driving through water on roads. Even shallow fast moving water across a road can sweep a vehicle away.

Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes.

In Canada, lightning kills up to 10 people every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors.

Severe thunderstorm watch for: Woodstock - Tillsonburg - Oxford County continued

Severe thunderstorms possible tonight.

This is an alert to the potential development of severe thunderstorms with large hail, damaging winds or heavy rainfall..Monitor weather conditions and listen for updated bulletins.

Warm and humid mid-summer conditions are in place over the regions and thunderstorms have developed ahead of the approaching cold front. There is the potential for heavy downpours with these storms giving rainfall amounts in the 50 to 80 millimetre range in an hour or two. There is also the possibility of some locations receiving repeated thunderstorms and locally higher amounts through the night. Thunderstorms tonight may also produce damaging winds in excess of 90 km/h, hail and there is a slight chance of a tornado. There is a new area of thunderstorms approaching from Michigan and the threat of severe thunderstorms will continue through the evening and possibly overnight.
