New inductees for the Tillsonburg Sports Hall of Fame

After careful consideration, the list of inductees for the 7th Tillsonburg Sports Hall of Fame has been finalized.

Three individuals, two coaches, one team, and two community builders will be added to the Hall during a ceremony at the Tillsonburg Community Centre on Sunday, Oct. 20.

The induction ceremony will feature a reception in the Lions Auditorium, and is an invitation-only event.

The list of 2013 inductees includes:

TEAM

1982-83 Tillsonburg major peewee hockey team

• OMHA major peewee A champions

 

INDIVIDUALS

Steven Saltzberry

• OFSAA silver 100m breaststroke 2008

• Gold medals 100m and 200m breaststroke at Canadian Eastern Championships, Halifax

• Canadian Senior Lifeguard Championship records

 

Dave Chisholm

• Canadian national team member, Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, 1999

• Canadian junior team member 1988-89

 

Mike Black

• AUS all-star, running back Acadia University 2002, 2004

 

COACHES

Bob Burleigh

• Dedicated high school coach in the sports of track and field (31 years), basketball (30 years), football (28 years) and cross-country (2 years).


Wayne Coyle

• Dedicated high school football coach (40 years)

 

COMMUNITY SPORTS BUILDERS

Les Peter

• Dedicated volunteer with the Tillsonburg and District Curling Club in many capacities including coach, club president and director. Active on the board of directors from 1996-2013. Coached high school curling from 1984-2002, and club-level OCA curling from 1986-2002. Instrumental in developing curling in Tillsonburg and coordinating fundraising efforts.

 

Stan Rekstis

• Dedicated sports official in basketball (1965-2013), baseball and softball (1974-2013), volleyball (2000-2013) and motocross (1990-1994). Co-founder of the Oxford Basketball Officials Association. Officiated basketball at the regional and provincial level.
