Allin wins second 18-hole Club Championship at The Bridges

Devona Allin knew she didn’t play her best round of golf Sunday, Sept. 1 to open the two-day 18-hole Ladies Club Championships at The Bridges at Tillsonburg.

“I didn’t play well yesterday,” admitted Allin, who shot an 18-hole round of 92 Sunday, but recovered with an 85 Monday to defend her18-hole Ladies Club Championship, sponsored by Good, Redden, Klosler.

“I haven’t been playing well the whole summer… and the other ladies will say that too. It’s my whole game. It’s not driving, it’s not chipping, it’s not putting – it’s just all of it.

“I was not leading yesterday, not at all… but that’s okay.”

Six shots back on Monday, Allin’s championship-clinching round started with a bogey. And a bogey. And a bogey. And a fourth bogey.

“Then I had two birdies. Then it was like, ‘ok, Devona, you know what… maybe, maybe you bring something on.’”

Her first birdie came on No. 5, a Par 3 from an elevated tee, followed by the long, uphill Par 4.

“It just happened,” she laughed. “I don’t have favourite holes – I can do bad on all of them. No… I really don’t have any favourites.”

The confidence from those two birdies carried through to the back nine, however she ran into a spot of trouble on No. 10 and 11.

“A big rough patch,” she admitted.

She ended up winning the ladies 18-hole club championship by 12 strokes.

Allin, who plays in the Tuesday Ladies Section at The Bridges, also plays regular golf with her husband, Randy, who won the Kevin’s Painting Men’s C flight Monday.

“So this is kind of special for us,” said Devona, noting her biggest competition is her husband.

“We go back and forth – he’ll win, I’ll win, he’ll win, I’ll win… it’s fun.”

The Men’s Club Championship involved three days play compared to the ladies’ two, so Devona could not directly compare weekend scores. But from Monday’s perspective, it was a good day.

“I did beat him today – he shot an 87, I had an 85,” she nodded.

“We’re happy to have The Bridges as our course, we love the community. This is a great course and the greenskeeper had it in fabulous shape. It’s in really great shape.”
