Teens on raft rescued at Long Point

The Ontario Provincial Police, Norfolk County Detachment along with the Norfolk County Fire Department responded to an Erie Boulevard, Long Point address on Tuesday, August 13.

At approximately 2:06 p.m., police received a call from a concerned parent about two females that were in an inflatable raft for over an hour and had been pushed south across the lake.

Police arrived on scene and observed an inflatable raft with two youth’s that were approximately 200 yards off shore. The Norfolk County Fire Department arrived on scene and launched a zodiac into the water to assist the females.

Investigation revealed that two females, 16 and 18 years or age, were floating in the raft when the wind pushed them away from the Long Point beach shore area. The females were unable to get back to shore and continued to drift further out into the lake.

Both females were subsequently brought back to shore and reunited with family members.

“No injuries were reported as a result of this incident and police would like to take this opportunity to remind all boating enthusiasts to always wear their life jackets and to prepare for that day out on the water,” said Constable Ed Sanchuk, Norfolk County OPP Detachment, in a media release.
