Open house at council chambers

An open house is being held tonight at the Tillsonburg council chambers beginning at 6 p.m.

The open house has been called to discuss potential options available to the town for regulating the location of methadone clinics and dispensaries.

“We want to gather some public comment on that and talk about some of the research we’ve done and what’s come about with this,” said David Samis, director development and communication services with the Town of Tillsonburg in a Tillsonburg News article in June.

A recent staff report presented to council in April provided potential options and recommendations for regulating methadone clinics and dispensaries. Once the public has their say, the report and recommendations will need to be approved to move forward.

“It will go back to council for some approvals later in the year,” he added.

Samis confirmed the open house via email Tuesday morning.

In May 2012, Tillsonburg Town Council passed By-law 3616, an interim control by-law to govern new methadone clinics and dispensaries in Tillsonburg.

Interim control by-laws allow a municipality to further examine areas pertaining to land use issues.
