Norfolk OPP is reminding the public to protect their property and valuables against would-be thieves after a theft reported at an Erie Boulevard, Long Point address.

On Thursday, July 18, 2013 at approximately 1:07 a.m., unknown suspects removed various pieces of clothing and two wallets from the beach area while the owners were swimming in Lake Erie. The wallets contained personal and financial information along with Canadian currency.

Those with any information on this incident or others are invited to call Norfolk County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or rime stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Hot, hot, hot

Norfolk OPP will be paying extra attention to motorists who leave children or animals in unattended vehicles during the current heat wave.

Officers will be executing ‘OPP Operation Freeze’ a community-based pilot program aimed at promoting safety in the community.

They will be armed with Mac’s Stores Froster vouchers as part of a positive ticketing program to help citizens beat the heat.

Tips on Vehicular Children and Pet Safety

Never leave children or pets inside a car for even a short time. Your car can become an “oven” in less than 15 minutes causing serious bodily harm or death to a child or animal.

Always lock your car and warn children never to play inside it unattended.

Install “lock-release” mechanisms inside your trunk to enable a child to get out safely if accidentally locked inside.

If you can’t take your child or pet with you when you leave the vehicle, don’t bring them and make other safe arrangements for them.

Leaving your vehicle running with the keys in the ignition poses a possible fire hazard and provides criminals an easy target. Keeping family, pets and property safe and secure is the primary focus.
