The Ladies Division of The Bridges has said goodbye to another of their golf members. Dorothy Morgan passed away at the age of 93. Dorothy had been a member of The Tillsonburg Golf & Country Club for 35 years when she was made an Honorary Life Member on her 90th  birthday in 2009. She remained an active golfer at The Bridges of Tillsonburg until 2011. Dorothy will be remembered as an avid golfer and a feisty lady who was not afraid to speak her mind.

Tuesday was our annual Scotch Two Ball Tournament combined with The Golf For The Cure with 28 ladies participating. The 18 and 9-hole ladies teamed up to enjoy 18 holes of golf on a beautiful sunny day. We had a shotgun start at 8:30.

When all was said and done Lil Neale and Wilma Jeffery emerged as low gross winners with a score of 98. Anne Spencer and Marion Hevenor finished 2nd with 106. First low net went to Wendy Coward and Marion McLean with 76, 2nd low net was Mandy Mawhinney and Mary Jane Barth with 79, 3rd low net was Lillian McCune and Ruth McSpadden with 79.5, and 4th low net went to Sue Ure and Adele Armstrong. Sharon Heath was closest to the pin on #2 and Lil Neale was closest to the pin on #5.

GOLF FOR THE CURE

The Golf Fore The Cure was created by Golf Canada to drive and promote women’s participation in the game of golf.  By partnering with the Canadian Cancer Society they have also added awareness and fundraising components to support the fight against breast cancer. Sponsors for the event are  Subaru, Investors Group and Molson Canadian 67.

The Club netted $715 in donations for The Canadian Cancer Society. All participants who donated $25 or more receive a one-year subscription to Golf Canada Magazine as a “reward.”

Subaru provided a fairway wood for a driving contest and a putter for a putting competition (in Mandy Mawhinney’s driveway). Phyl Lawrence & Mae Moffat took home the respective  hardware.

All participants in the Golf For The Cure are eligible to enter into a “Viva Las Vegas” contest – a trip for two to see Celine Dion’s show at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas and includes airfare, accommodation, car rental and a round of golf for two, also sponsored by Subaru.

A representative from Investors Group was on hand at hole No. 9 to invite us all to participate in a “chipping” competition – with marshmallows as an interesting substitution for golf balls. As the lone scorer, Joyce Glass was the winner of a sports duffle bag.

The team with the lowest score on Hole No. 7, using only a 6 or 7 iron or wood had their names entered into a draw for a  Molson 67 golfer’s kit provided by Molson Canadian 67. Bryden Sinden was the lucky winner.

Following the tournament a fabulous potluck lunch was held at the home of Mandy Mawhinney and the prizes were awarded.

Special thanks to conveners Susan Ure and Lillian McCune for a job well done. Also to Stella Black and her team for organizing the Golf Fore The Cure and to Mandy Mawhinney for her hospitality.  It was a wonderful day of fun golf and camaraderie.

As always, thanks to Walter and his crew for their help and immaculate course conditions.

See you on the greens.
