It is so hard to believe it is mid June.

The weather has been such that it still feels like early spring much of the time. It has been cool and wet sprinkled with a few nice, almost summer days.

Many have complained of the unpredictable spring weather, the rain, the cold, the winds but we have to admit, the weather this spring was everything needed to produce the most wonderful, festive, voluptuous showing of flowering shrubs, bushes and trees I can ever remember. The flowering almonds, the red buds, the magnolias, dogwoods, lilacs and all those trees growing along side the road were spectacular. Sometimes we just have to be thankful for what is instead of wishing for what we think it should be.

It’s good sports-watching weather, too. Stanley Cup playoffs have been on for a while. Haven’t watched a lot all year but I am so thrilled it’s a couple of old timers meeting for the finals. It’s almost nostalgic seeing two of the Original Six battling for the Cup so I will be watching.

No one won the Triple Crown again this year but it’s always good to see a 131/1 long shot come through to topple the big guns. Makes all of us little guys think we have a chance, too. Morgan asked if I had ever seen a horse win the Triple Crown. Dating myself but I was watching when Affirmed won in, I think, ‘79 and Secretariat in ’73.

Spent Sunday afternoon ironing my summer clothes while watching the Party at the Poconos. Although I am always hoping Danica will break the Top 10 at the finish or one of my favourites, Smoke (Tony Stewart) or Jeff Gordon brings home the win, I am a Jimmy Johnson fan as well, so wasn’t disappointed with his win.

Watched the finals of the French Open. I guess we expect to see Serena Williams in the women’s final and Rafal Nadal in the men’s final. It is who they each play against that makes it interesting. Maybe some upstart will snatch victory away from them. I wanted to see if Rafal would make history and win an unprecedented eighth time. He did in grand fashion.

But speaking of fashion… You would think with all the money, pull  and opportunity that boy has he could find underwear that doesn’t crawl up all the time. He certainly can afford to buy the best gotchies ever made or to have some specially made to accommodate his needs.

I know they like to get focused and into a routine but come on. His is always the same. He bounces the ball a few times, digs at the back of his drawers, pushes non-existent wisps of hair behind his ears, wipes his brow, bounces the ball a few more times, pulls down on the front of his shorts, digs out back again, brushes back a few more invisible strands of hair and then serves. He must know by now he always has the camera trained on him so you would think he could refrain from adjusting his underwear so often. I am sure he could eliminate those few steps of his routine and still deliver a crushing 102 mile an hour ace. He needs some intense training in public presentation or maybe just go commando.

It seems to be mostly a male affliction but they should all be made aware spitting, scratching and adjusting is not very appealing and it does not make them better athletes.
