Roosters win twice in Tillsonburg Men's A Slo-PItch

Well, we finally experienced some nasty weather that wiped out two of three nights of men’s slo-pitch action.

It will be a busy weekend coming up kicked off Friday by the Tillsonburg Relay for Life. The diamond will be abuzz Saturday and Sunday with the third annual Gear Train Pylons King of the Hill Slo-Pitch Tournament.

An added bonus will be a home run derby for both men’s and ladies that will take place after the last scheduled game on Saturday.

Men’s C

Stickmen 16, John Beere 14

Stickmen: BJ Granger 4-4, Chris Webb 1-1 (3 BBs)

John Beere: Andrew Barnim 3-3, Ian Monk 4-5

BJ Granger drove in the tying and winning runs for Stickmen.

Men’s B

Big Bass Brawlers handed Kirwin and Oatman their first loss of the season easily beating them by 16.

Kirwin Oatman got back to their winning ways beating Spartans by two.

DeGroote-Hill kept pace with Kirwin Oatman spotting Bass Brawlers an early lead before coming back to win by 11.

Big Bass Brawlers 34, Kirwin Oatman 18

Big Bass: Kevin Karnes 5-5, Ryan Hambleton 5-6, Steve Derks 2 HRs, Joe Stone 2 HRs, Brent Schooley 2 HRs, Jason VanGroningen HR

Kirwin Oatman: Darryl Whittington 3-3, Scott Swance 3-4 HR, Jason Godby HR

Bass Brawlers put seven across in four of the seven innings.

Kirwin and Oatman 17, Spartans 15

Kirwin Oatman: Darryl Whittington 4-4, Marty Hawel 2-3, Thom Puhr 2 HRs (grand slam)

Spartans: Abe Krahn 3-3, Jake Friesen 3-4

Thom Puhr led the winners with three homers and eight RBIs.

DeGroote-Hill 18, Big Bass Brawlers 7

DeGroote-Hill: Adam Goodlett 4-4 HR, John Nichols 4-4

Big Brass: Jason VanGroningen 3-3, Ryan Hambleton 2-3, Shaine Hall HR

Adam Goodlett homered, doubled and drove in four for DeGroote-Hill.

Men’s A

Roosters was the only team to get wins on the field last week. They won a close one over Maple View Variety D-Backs, then followed that up winning by 10 over IC Waters.

Gators won by forfeit over Vector Blue Jays.

Roosters 14, Maple View Variety 11

Roosters: Derek Buchner 4-4 2 HRs, Andrew Burns 3-4

Maple View Variety: Dustin Pettit 4-4, Abe Epp 2-3, Mike Wencel HR, Nathan Klassen HR

Derek Buchner’s sixth-inning three-run homer decided it for Roosters.

Roosters 14, IC Waters 4

Roosters: Mark Hamulecki 3-4, Derek Buchner 3-5 2 HRs

IC Waters: Tim Miners 2-3, Dave Southwick 3-3, Mike Shewan HR, Jeff Cadotte HR

Derek Buchner homered twice and scored four runs for Roosters.

Ladies A

Jays won two straight by lopsided margins last week. They beat ServiceMaster by 13 and EMI Steelerz by 10 before being beaten by second place Great Lakes Physio – Corey’s. Great Lakes – Corey’s also won by 11 over Ritchie’s Ice Cream and Barbecue.

Eichenberg remained undefeated after winning by three over Orange Crush and six over Ritchie’s.

GL Corey’s: Tania Ghesquiere 4-4, Michelle Puhr 3-4

Ritchie’s: Michelle Warboys 2-3, Jen Heleniak 3-3

Ritchie’s left fielder Jen Heleniak made an outstanding catch in the fifth. Tania Ghesquiere was an offensive and defensive standout for the winners.

Eichenberg 7, Ritchie’s Ice Cream 1

Eichenberg: Katie Hahn 3-4, Nancy Hiebert 2-3

Ritchie’s: Aimee Sparzynski 3-3, Steph Menich 2-3

Mary Boldt’s triple and Lauren Duffy’s double were the only extra base hits for the winners.

Great Lakes – Corey’s 12, Jays 1

GL Corey’s: Cindy Kyle 3-3, Christine Gubesch 3-3

Jays: Nicki Dawson 2-3, Bobbi Hiscock 1-3

Michelle Puhr tripled and scored three runs for the winners.

Jays 20, ServiceMaster 7

Jays: Mary Froese 5-5, Nicki Dawson 5-5, Sarah Loewen HR

ServiceMaster: Kerry Jensen 4-4, Steph Erdelac 3-4

Leadoff batter Kirstie Jones scored four runs for Jays.

Jays 15, EMI Services 5

Jays: Nicki Dawson 4-5, Mary Froese 5-5

EMI: Sarah Sparzynski 3-5, Jordan Coderre 3-5

Jays had a seven-run bat around third in the win.

Eichenberg 8, Orange Crush 5

Eichenberg: Kim Harrop 3-3, Kate Hahn 4-4

Orange Crush: Chrissy Barnard 3-4, Shannon Schneckenburger 3-4

Eichenberg’s Kim Harrop had a triple in their five-run third.

Ladies B

Focus and Hollister KIA continue to battle it out for first place.

Focus won a close one over Challengers and won by six over Cardio Plus Camo Pitches. KIA beat Cardio Plus by seven and won in double digits over Outcasts.

Challengers beat Scared Hitless, and Hericanes won their game with Outcasts.

Hollister KIA 27, Outcasts 10

Hollister KIA: Megan Bye 6-6, Mandy Kromplak 5-6

Outcasts: Amber Woolgar 3-4, Lyndsay Baillie 3-4

Danielle Swart scored four runs for KIA.

Focus 7, Challengers 3

Focus: Kristen Bogart 3-3, Amanda Friesen 2-2

Tina Klassen 3-4, Anna Driedger 2-4

Focus shut out Challengers through the first six innings.

Hericanes 17, Outcasts 6

Hericanes: Stacy Lattimer 4-4, Steph McDonald 3-3

Outcasts: Steph Miller 3-4, Lyndsay Bailey 4-4

Hericanes scored seven in each of their first two at-bats.

Nicole Sanderson, Greta Styve and Kristen Bogart hit doubles for Focus.
