Rain challenges Indigo Lounge golfers at The Bridges

It was nip and tuck as to whether or not we would be able to play our first tournament of the year sponsored by Indigo Lounge at The Bridges at Tillsonburg.

The 18-Hole ladies could not start on the back nine, as planned, because of rain.

However, by 10:30 the rained had let up and it was decided that we would proceed with a modified tournament with both the 18 and 9-Hole ladies playing only the front nine. Gratefully, the rain did not restart until we were on our last hole, rendering us damp rather than sopping wet!

Lunch followed with Marion Hevenor asking the blessing. Chef Ron and his staff prepared a lovely lunch beginning with a spinach salad, followed by chicken with rice and asparagus with a hollandaise sauce. He then served up his famous deep-fried apple fritters with ice cream and a dollop of whip cream. As ladies do, we commented on the calories then licked our plates clean. Delicious.

Kelly Spencer, owner of Indigo Lounge, joined us for lunch, then presented the trophy and prizes. The Indigo Lounge Trophy and gift certificates went to Stella Black of the 18-Hole ladies with an over-the-field low gross of 41, and to Bryden Sinden of The 9-Hole Ladies with an over-the-field low gross of 45.

Indigo Lounge gift certificates were also presented to Mandy Mawhinney with an over-the-field low net of 28 for the 18-Hole Ladies and to Mary Jane Barth with an over-the-field low net of 31 for the 9-Hole Ladies. Kelly also presented prizes to Mary Wiltshire for closest to the pin on #2 and to Bobby Lamers for closest to the pin on #5.

Tournament conveners Bobby Lamers and Shirley Waterhouse then presented the other prizes as follows:

A Flight: 18 Hole Low Gross – Bobby Lamers with 42, 9 Hole Low Gross – Ruth McSpadden with 50, 18-Hole Low Net - Pam Good with 31, 9-Hole Low Net – Shirley Waterhouse and Lillian McCune tied with 36.

B Flight: 18-Hole Low Gross – Lil Neale with 44, 9-Hole Low Gross – Mary Wiltshire with 48, 18-Hole Low Net – Wendy Coward with 29, 9-Hole Low Net – Sharon Heath with 37.

Bobby and Shirley thanked Kelly for her support and presented her with a beautiful hanging planter. Everyone went home with a gift certificate to Indigo Lounge and a golf ball. The sponsorship is greatly appreciated by the Tuesday Lady Golfers.

Also, thanks to Bobby Lamers and Shirley Waterhouse for a job well done under adverse conditions and to Walter Kleer for his ongoing assistance.

Our next tournament is June 18 in the format of a Scotch Two-Ball, combined with our Golf-Fore-The-Cure. It will be followed by a potluck lunch at the home of Mandy Mawhinney. It’s a fun tournament and requires an established handicap. If you don’t already have a handicap and want to participate, simply keep your scorecards for five games and turn them into either Dorell Clark or Stella Black. They will happily calculate a handicap for you. Signup sheets are posted in the Ladies change room.

Next week we are back to our regular league play.

Hopefully the weather will co-operate.

See you on the greens.
