Dirty Mitts, DeGroote-Hill come from behind in Tillsonburg men's slo-pitch

The first full week of slo-pitch in Tillsonburg culminated without any rain until the last game on Friday night.

The ladies teams are doing a fantastic job of submitting their gamesheets in a timely fashion, the men’s league not so much, which really hampers my new responsibility as a statistician keeping standings up to date, with games played and most important of all the sponsors whose names fail to appear in weekly columns!

MEN’S A

The Maple View Variety D-Backs won both games last week opening their season with a four-run victory over Robert Q Travel. They followed that up with a close two-run decision over Vector Blue Jays. IC Waters handed Robert Q Travel its second loss outscoring them by 10.

Maple View Variety: Ryan Miller 6-6 2 HRs, Randy Miller 4-5, Abe Epp HR, Mike Wencel HR, Brad Wencel HR

Vector: Chad Lofthouse 5-5 3 HRs, Adam Thomson 4-5, Ben Rempel HR, Eric Vanwynsberghe 2 HRs

Maple View put multiple runs across in every inning but one.

Maple View Variety 10, Robert Q Travel 6

Maple View: Nathan Klassen 3-4, Ryan Miller 3-4

Robert Q: Josh Stubbs 2-3, Logan Kloet 2-4

Nathan Klassen and Ryan Black each scored two runs for the winners.

IC Waters 17, Robert Q Travel 7

IC Waters: Mike Shewan 4-5, Jason Freeman 4-5, Steve Leacock (grand slam), Jeff Cadotte HR

Robert Q: Robert Nant 2-3, Matt Wight 2-3, Logan Kloet HR

Steve Leacock’s fourth inning grand slam widened IC’s lead over Robert Q.

MEN’S B

Dirty Mitts and DeGroote-Hill each came from behind to defeat the Spartans. Dirty Mitts came back from an eight-run deficit while DeGroote-Hill fought back from 11 down winning in walkoff fashion.

Dirty Mitts 19, Spartans 16

Dirty Mitts: Greg Onaitis 4-4, Kent Collings JR 4-4

Spartans: Corny Krahn 5-5, Mark Klassen 3-4

Dirty Mitts came back from six down to overtake Spartans in the seventh.

DeGroote-Hill 20, Spartans 19

DeGroote-Hill: Chris Parker 4-5, Trevor Fleet 3-3

Spartans: Martin Klassen 3-3 HR, Jake Klassen 3-4

DeGroote-Hill scored six winning it in walkoff fashion in the seventh on a Chris Parker base hit.

MEN’S C

Hit N Run remained unbeaten in the division after a pair of lopsided victories and a one-run decision over Cain’s Pelicans.

Broadway Lanes Bears picked up victories over Stickmen and Straight-Up to keep pace.

Hit N Run 13, Cain’s Pelicans 12

Hit N Run: Johnny Epp 3-3, Jacob Enns 3-3

Cain’s: Mike Kamenar 3-4, Tyler Danbrook 3-4, Adam Jensen HR

Paul Reimer drove in three runs for Hit N Run over the short-handed Pelicans.

Hit N Run: Herman Enns 4-5, Johnny Epp 4-5

Stickmen: Dylan Gradon 4-4, Dave Phipps 3-3

Pete Enns drove in five for the winners.

Hit N Run: David Enns 4-4, Johnny Klassen 4-4, Deidrich Klassen (grand slam)

Broadway Lanes: Jeff Davies 3-3, Jesse Legg 3-3

Deidrich Klassen’s fifth inning grand slam highlighted a seven-run rally.

Broadway Lanes Bears 19, Straight-Up 2

Broadway Lanes: Devon Schultz 4-4, Brent O’Brien 3-3

Straight-Up: Brett Parsons 2-2, Ryan Bruckler 1-3

It was all Bears as they took just four-and-a-half innings to dispose of the nine-man Straight-Up squad.

Stickmen: Dylan Graydon 4-4, Darryl Neville 4-5

Brent O’Brien scored four runs for the winners.

LADIES A

Eichenberg’s came from behind and held on to defeat Great Lakes Physio – Corey’s Restaurant 8-6 in the first of their three matchups. They had an easier time beating ServiceMaster by 11. Great Lakes Physio-Corey’s bounced back with an easy win over Orange Crush.

Eichenberg: Kate Hahn 3-3, Becky Ford 2-3

Great Lakes Physio – Corey’s Restaurant: Christine Gubesch 2-3, Janet Culliton 3-3

Eichenberg trailed by three in the fifth, then scored eight over their last two at-bats to take the win.

Great Lakes – Corey’s 15, Orange Crush 1

Great Lakes – Corey’s: Jessica Anseeuw 4-4, Kasey McKenzie 4-4

Orange Crush: Katharine Lockey 2-3, Laurie Hart 2-2

Jessica Anseeuw led the winner’s with a triple and five runs batted in.

Eichenberg 14, ServiceMaster 3

Eichenberg: Amanda Garrett 3-3, Kate Hahn 3-3 HR

ServiceMaster: Kerry Jensen 3-4, Diane Hall 2-3

Kate Hahn homered and scored three runs for Eichenberg.

LADIES B

Hollister KIA and Focus each remained unbeaten on the season. Hollister KIA scored 11 late to upend the Challengers while Focus mercied Outcasts. Challengers grabbed the other division win beating Cardio Plus Camos by three.

Challengers 13, Cardio Plus 10

Challengers: Tina Klassen 4-4, Tina Enns 4-4 HR (grand slam)

Cardio Plus: Melissa Patterson 3-4, Amber Way 4-4

Tina Enns was the catalyst in the Challengers’ win. She had a three-run homer, a grand slam, a two-run double and a single.

Hollister KIA 18, Challengers 8

Hollister KIA: Kristen Mawhinney 4-4, Tammy Lalone 4-4

Challengers: Nettie Peters 4-4, Trudy Froese 3-4

Hollister KIA trailed until the fifth when their offence erupted scoring 11 over their final two at-bats.

Focus 30, Outcasts 5

Focus: Greta Stuyve 4-4, Kristen Bogart

Outcasts: Tonya Temple 2-3, Stephanie Miller 2-2

Monica Wright and Greta Styve each scored four for Focus.
