I’m happy to start my 22nd year as The “Voice.” Another year of slo-pitch commenced last Tuesday night with the Tillsonburg Men’s C Division taking the spotlight. The Tillsonburg Ladies League took to the field the following night.

The weekend kicked off the tournament season in Tillsonburg. Eichenberg’s Dodge Girls won the Ladies B Division, and the Broadway Lanes Bears lost in the Men’s Rec finals. The weather was superb but sunburns were prevalent by Sunday.

Men’s C

Delhi Dodgers got their feet wet as a new entry in the men’s slo-pitch league emerging with two victories last week, including a come from behind walkoff win over Stickmen.

Cain’s Pelicans won three, amassing 65 runs. Troyer Destroyers grabbed the other division win.

Troyer Destroyers 14, Straight-Up 5

Destroyers: Paul Lavier 4-4, Jessie Temple 3-3

Straight-Up: Gus Ford 4-4, Chad Vigar 3-4

Jesse Temple drove in five for the winners.

Delhi Dodgers 8, Stickmen 7

Dodgers: Kurt Pettitt 3-4, Jordan Pope 3-4

Stickmen: Roy Hurd 4-4, Jamie Neville 3-4

Garrette Roelens had a walkoff hit in the Dodgers’ four-run seventh.

Delhi Dodgers 20, John Beere 6

Dodgers: Rob Atkins 4-5, Matt Sindenlla 4-5

John Beere: Jesse Anderson 3-3, Kevin Stuyt 2-3

Rob Atkins, Matt Sindenlla and Kenny Miller all scored three runs for Delhi.

Cain’s Pelicans 23, Troyer Destroyers 19

Cain’s: Dave Kamenar 5-5 HR, Mike Kamenar 4-5

Troyer: Kevin Alward 4-4, Eric MacFadden 3-4

Dave Kamenar homered, doubled and scored four runs for Cain’s.

Cain’s Pelicans 19, Straight-Up 11

Cain’s: Nick Wilson 4-4, Ryan Verbuyst 3-4

Straight-Up: David Lee 4-4, TJ Hawley 3-4

Nick Wilson reached and scored in four appearances for Cain’s.

Cain’s Pelicans 23, John Beere 10

Cain’s: Tyler Danbrook 4-4, Dave Kamenar 4-4

John Beere: Shawn Elliott 3-3, Kevin Stuyt 3-3

Cain’s put 13 runs across over their first two at-bats.

LADIES

Last year’s top three teams all won Wednesday night. The ladies league was split into two divisions this year with each group playing within its own division three times, and the other group once.

Ladies A

Eichenberg, despite playing with only nine, laid a mercy on Ritchie’s Modern Trends.

Great Lakes Physio – Corey’s Restaurant broke up a close game with a six-run seventh to defeat Jays.

Orange Crush beat EMI Steelerz by five, and ServiceMaster had their bye week.

Amanda Long had a pair of doubles and three runs scored for the winners.

EMI: Kim Wood 2-4

Orange plated five sixth-inning runs to break up a close game.

Eichenberg’s 17, Ritchie’s Modern Trends 2

Eichenberg: Alisha Stubbs 5-5, Becky Ford 4-4

Ritchie’s: Michele Warboys 2-2, Jen Heleniak 2-2

Becky Ford and Mary Boldt scored four runs for Eichenberg’s.

Ladies B

Focus made its inaugural appearance winning in thrilling walkoff fashion over Challengers last week.

Hericanes mercied a very short-handed Outcast squad.

Hollister KIA won by 10 over Camo Cardio Plus Pitches, and Scared Hitless was idle.

Hollister KIA: Jenn Dean 5-5, Mandy Kromplak 4-5

Camo Cardio: Krystal Sivyer 2-2, Pat Sivyer 2-2

Hollister’s defence turned a triple play in the fourth inning.

Hericanes 25, Outcasts 10

Hericanes: Kristen Duncan 5-5, Amy Bee 4-4

Outcasts: Lyndsay Baillie 4-4, Trisha DeLoose 4-4

Everyone in the winner’s order scored at least one run.

Focus 17, Challengers 16

Focus: Kristen Bosart 4-4, Bernita Jordan 3-4

Challengers: Tina Enns 4-5, Suzie Klassen 5-5

Kristen Bosart had a walkoff base hit in the seventh to win it for Focus.
