Theatre camp combines fun, learning

A summer camp at Backstage Capitol Theatre will offer a glimpse into theatre production for local youngsters.
Registration is now open for the Backstage Pass Summer Camp run by Delhi native Rebecca Livingstone.
Livingstone is currently studying concurrent education at Wilfrid Laurier University in Brantford and hopes to transfer her skills to the theatre camp.
“I am excited. It is going to be a new challenge,” said Livingstone.
The children will learn about all the different facets of stage production.
“The will learn about all aspects of theatre in a short period of time,” said Livingstone. “They don't need to have any experience. It is just for fun and I find they (children) branch out after that and become more outgoing.”
Children will have a chance to write and perform scripts, learn about props and stage management, which will all accumulate into a final production at the end of the two-week camp produced entirely by the campers.
“It is just to show their parents and friends what they have been doing all week,” she said.
Each day of the camp will also have a theme such as Hawaiian hullabaloo, detective for a day and mad science. Campers will play games and do crafts in the morning relating to the theme while focusing on theatre in the afternoon.
The camp is offered for children six to 13-years-old.
There will be two two-week sessions, July 15 to 26 and August 12 to 23. Sessions run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with before and after care available for an additional fee.
The cost is $250 plus HST per child. A 10% discount will be offered to those who register before June 1.
