Ride Norfolk adds more stops

Ride Norfolk is launching a new route this month.

Norfolk's public transportation system will launch a new route May 6 with stops in more communities, shorter wait times for return trips, and increased service within Simcoe, said a media release.

“What we’re finding is that once people use the service, they really enjoy it and are more likely to use it again,” coordinator Brad Smith said in the release. “We’re convinced that this county-wide improvement to the Ride Norfolk system will increase ridership and encourage more traffic between communities for appointments, work, or and social outings.”

Stops in Port Ryerse, Turkey Point, Vittoria, Courtland, Bill’s Corners, and Greens Corners have been added to the regular service in Simcoe, Port Dover, Delhi, Waterford, and Port Rowan.

Simcoe will now have 29 bus stops.

The Ride Norfolk bus is wheelchair accessible with accommodation for two wheelchairs and seat belts are also available as an added safety feature, said the release.

Rates will not increase. Ticket prices are $2 for an in-town trip and $6 for a trip between communities. Children under five years old ride free.

Tickets are available at any Norfolk County building and public library, with a discount available for any purchase of five tickets or more. Riders from outside Simcoe can get a transfer ticket that allows them to use the service in Simcoe throughout the day at no extra cost.

“Ride Norfolk will continue to offer an affordable, reliable method of transportation to everyone in Norfolk County. The addition of new communities and the extra stops in Simcoe will make the system more accessible and convenient for all residents,” said Smith.
