Chamber of Commerce honours Pastime Emporium

A year after its opening, Pastime Emporium continues to make a splash on Main Street in Delhi.

The novelty gift store and cafe, owned by Linda and Ray Munroe, opened in February, 2012. The store features an array of knick-knacks, retro candies, local art and gourmet food products.

“We keep getting new people in – from all over the place,” said Linda. “Once they come in, they want to bring a friend next time.”

They have also collected a sea of regulars that take advantage of the coffee, snacks and light fare offered in the rear of the store.

“Some people come in two or three times a day,” said Ray.

The store also caught the eye of the Delhi and District Chamber of Commerce and is being recognized with the Business Improvement Award for a small business.

“They have made a major investment in the town,” said Chamber president John Stanczyk.

The Munroes moved to Delhi part-time 10 years ago looking for a weekend retreat away from the Burlington area.

They had considered opening a business for several years but didn't know what kind of store would fit into Delhi and they are still learning.

“We are always making little changes,” said Linda, in the form of food and what kind of items they keep stocked in the store.

Jewelry, vintage inspired trinkets and gourmet teas are always popular items said Ray.

“People are extremely complimentary,” he said.

While their first year has gone relatively smooth, the couple hopes to raise more awareness for the shop to expand its clientele in town.

The Business Improvement Award will be handed out at the Delhi and District Chamber of Commerce's Annual General Meeting on May 1 at the Delhi Polish Alliance of Canada's hall.
