Team makes it four in a row at trivia challenge

The Tillson Toons team nabbed its fourth straight win at the Delhi and District Chamber of Commerce's annual Trivia Challenge Night last Wednesday, but just barely.
After nine rounds of mind-boggling trivia, the Tillson Toons – made up of Bart Crandon of Delhi, Dave Kington of Tillsonburg, Craig MacDougall of Tillsonburg and Carol Jones of Tillsonburg — trailed by one point behind the Rotary Club of Delhi team. By the end of round 10, the Toons took home the title – one point ahead of the Rotary Club.
“We all contribute a little but (MacDougall) is really good at this,” said Crandon. “We put the same team in every year. They enjoy it – we all do.”
Having fun and confidence in your answers is the key to success, said MacDougall.
“It's a way to have fun and use a lot of your useless knowledge,” he said. “I'm guessing we are all newshounds, so that helps and we are all readers.”
“Carol's advice when it gets to the end is don't second guess. When you start changing your answers you are probably going to get them wrong.”
With 29 teams competing in the 9th annual Trivia Challenge event, it was one of the chamber's most successful nights.
“It is tied for our best ever,” said organizer Mike Jiggens.
The evening is used as a fundraiser to help support projects within the community, such as the Delhi Community Health Centre and programs at Delhi District Secondary School.
Many teams return year after year to test their knowledge and the event also draws trivia buffs from out of town.
“It's kind of unique. It's not something a lot of communities do and we do attract a lot of out of town teams that are into this kind of thing,” said Jiggens, noting there were competitors from as far away as Burlington and Toronto.
