Spring has sprung

SPRING IS HERE! Yes, today is the first day of spring, so it won't be long until the snow melts and is replaced by green grass, full trees, and beautiful flowers.

Students are settling back into their classes after enjoying their week of fun and relaxation during March Break. Monsignor O'Neil would like to acknowledge one of their students who was able to have an amazing experience over her March Break.

Avery Vanwynsberghe was a 'Flower Retriever' at the World Figure Skating Championships held in London, Ontario over the March Break. Avery was one of only 18-20 skaters chosen from a group of more than 50 skaters who met Skate Canada Requirements. Avery did extremely well and made her school and community very proud. Congratulations Avery!

We wish our junior hockey team good luck at their tournament in London on Friday. Go KNIGHTS Go!

Grade 8s should be having some fun at their Confirmation Retreat on Saturday.

Monsignor O'Neil School's second annual Math Passport Night was a great success once again. Over 100 people came out to this family event, and students and parents learned a lot about contemporary mathematics, honing their skills in a hands-on, fun-filled evening.

Families visited each classroom and Father Tom from St. Mary’s church in the library (you'd be surprised at how mathematics relates to the bible!), where they completed a math problem and got their ‘Monsignor O’Neil Passport’ stamped to move on to the next room. There were lots of prizes to win and refreshments to consume after all the hard work.

Our next family night is planned for Friday, April 26. It will be a Trivia Night for grown-ups ONLY! So, all grown-ups, remember to save the date on your calendars for this fun-filled event.

Students at Monsignor O'Neil School are excited that we have a new leader of our church. On Tuesday, March 12th, the Cardinals elected Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio from Argentina to be our new pope.

He has chosen the name Francis in honor of St. Francis of Assisi. We welcome Pope Francis, and we are eager to hear his words. Furthermore, we are relieved that the Cardinals were able to come to a decision and elect Pope Francis in time for the Easter Holidays.

Sunday, March 24th is Palm Sunday: let's remember all that Jesus has done for us. As He carried his cross to Calvary, He carried all of our crosses as well. We should remember to thank Jesus for opening the gates to heaven, and by uniting ourselves with Him, we can face any hurdle that is put in our path.
