Stompin' Tom tribute will be telecast tonight

Acknowledging the loss of a Canadian icon last week, TVCOGECO will present Stompin' Tom Connors: A Celebration of His Life tonight at 7 p.m.

This will be a live telecast of the ceremony that is planned at the Peterborough Memorial Centre in honour of one of Canada's most famous country-folk singer-songwriters — a ceremony he helped arrange in the weeks prior to his passing at age 77.

Peterborough is the place where Connors received his nickname in 1967, during a gig at the King George Hotel. The ceremony at the Peterborough Memorial Centre, a hockey arena that holds roughly 3,800 people, comes a day after a private memorial for Connors.

Tonight's program includes a mix of live music, video clips, family photos and memories of Stompin’ Tom delivered by close friends, musical peers and government officials.

“TVCOGECO is truly honoured to produce the Celebration of Life of one of Canada’s true legends, Stompin’ Tom Connors,” stated TVCOGECO senior manager of programming and community relations David Feeley in a press release.
