Tillsonburg Indoor Soccer League Playoffs
Tuesday, March 5
Tillson Pizza 12, Poultry Specialties 5
Our 1st playoff game of the week featured a B Division 3rd matchup against 6th place Poultry Specialties and it was Pizza who jumped out to the early lead 7-2. It was an uphill battle after that as Pizza just cruised controlled to the semis.
Pizza’s big gunner was Cole Vuylsteke with five, a hat trick from Bryce Stone, double by Scott Dunbar and single from Chris Coldham. Poultry got three from Nick Byrnes and singles by Brad Smale and Andre Oliveira.
Corey’s Restaurant 5, Courtland PM 4
Our 2nd game was repeat defensive battle as Corey’s was seeking revenge from their last match losing 4-3 to Courtland. It was Corey’s striking first and they led 2-0 at the half before Courtland attempted the big comeback. Corey’s did battle tough in the 2nd and hung on for that semifinal advancement.
Leading the way for Corey’s were Jason Martins with a pair and singles from Aidan Boyle, Jason Prno and goalie Mike Mesquita. Courtland got a double from Aalt Pelleboer with singles from Jesse DeJong and Dan Oliveira.
Wednesday, March 6
Pettman’s Auctioneering 9, DoneRight Landscaping 4
The Auction gang took an early 3-1 1st half lead, but quickly fell behind in the 2nd 4-3 as DoneRight came out flying off the blocks. But the Auction crew kept their composure and did not panic and went on to score six unanswered markers to seal the deal and secure the road to the semis.
Auction’s Gerrit Pelleboer banged home four, followed closely by a Kris Foreman hat trick and singles from Mac Robinson and Alechia Jardine. DoneRight got singles from Max Evanitski, Nathan Matos, Don Evanitski and goalie Neil Puente.
Signshop 12, Danbrook Auto 6
Our 2nd A feature match was a bit surprising as Signshop took down a strong Danbrook team, who were ahead of them on points in the standings. Signshop jumped out with a 5-3 1st half lead before the Auto crew’s wheels completely came off in the 2nd.
Leading the Signshop barrage was Cody Kraushaar with his season-high six markers, followed by doubles from Stephen DeGroote and Jamie Lamont and singles by Terry Pittao and goalie Jason Beard. Danbrook’s Chad Lofthouse is back and had a good night with four, with singles from Jen Pathy and goalie Tyler Danbrook.
Thursday, March 7
Computer Station 5, Corey’s Restaurant 3
A typically tough playoff game with some solid defence. Computer took the early 3-2 edge at the break. It was a one goal game for most of the 2nd as Corey’s battled tough right till the end. Computer got the late marker with only minutes left on the clock to seal the win.
Nick Simon got a pair for Computer with singles from Justin Young, Csanad Kocsis and Josh McKnight. Corey’s got singles from Mike Mesquita, Aidan Boyle and Jason Martins.
Ontario Laser 8, Tillson Pizza 7 (OT Golden Goal)
The 2nd playoff semifinal was another great battle as Pizza made the amazing comeback after trailing by a 5- 1 1st half margin. The 2nd half saw the Pizza crew step it up and equalized at 6-6 with minutes remaining. Laser scored a late one making it 7-6 with minutes remaining, but goalie Nathan Beard scored on a missile with only 10 seconds to send it to overtime.
Laser’s Ryan VanLeeuwen was the hero, coolly slotting home the golden goal four minutes into overtime to lead his team to the finals.
Ryan led his squad with five, with two from goalie Erwin Loewen and single by Cedric Tomico. Pizza got four from Scott Dunbar, a double from Fred Hodgson and Nathan’s big equalizer.
