Robbie E vs Tyler Tirva... Sunday at the Legion

Tyler Tirva, Shawn Spears, Jewells Malone, The Freak Show... they're all back in town Sunday, March 3rd when Classic Championship Wrestling kicks off its 2013 professional wrestling season at the Tillsonburg Legion. The action begins at the usual 2 p.m.

It’s CCW’s first show in Tillsonburg since Halloween 2012, and promoter Jay McDonald has a seven-match, star-studded card planned.

“Right now we’re slated for March 3rd, then the first Sunday in May, then our Halloween show again.”

Sunday’s 2013 opener will feature TNA star Robbie E, who will challenge Tyler Tirva in the main event.

“This is our first show at the Tillsonburg Legion where I’ve brought in talent that’s currently on TV,” McDonald noted.

When they were at the Community Centre, McDonald tried to include one or more ‘legends.’ But at the Legion, with fewer seats, the show was scaled down.

That changes on Sunday.

“This show I was able to score Robbie E, through his friend Shawn Spears, who said Robbie was in Ontario for the weekend, that he had a show in Oshawa on Saturday and might be available on the 3rd. So we worked something out for Sunday.

“Robbie’s current on TNA – he’s a former Television Champion on TNA and former and a former X Division Champion on TNA as well. I’m pretty excited to get a main talent – currently on TV – into the Legion. That opportunity won’t come up very often, but it did this time and hopefully we’ll get some people out to support that.

“Tirva’s our champion – the ultra heel. It’s going to be a very good main event.”

Spears, a former WWE wrestler, will be facing Jake O’Reilly, who has some ‘history’ in Tillsonburg.

“This will be Jake’s second time at the Legion,” said McDonald.

“He came out the first time as a ‘good guy…’ but that didn’t sit too well with him. He’s had enough being a good guy – he told me he’s coming back – and he’s hot – and he’s ready to cause some trouble.”

“Good ‘ol bad Jake,” smiled Freak Show, who will be wrestling Sunday in a tag team match.

“Next we’ve got Rob Rage against Notorious T.I.D.,” said McDonald. “This is just going to be a big brawl, a hard-hitting battle. Rob played The Incredible Hulk for us at the Halloween show.”

“He is BIG,” nodded Freak.

“Probably the biggest we’ve had so far,” agreed McDonald. “It’s just going to be hard-hitting. T.I.D.’s a brawler.”

Sunday’s Classic Championship Wrestling Show will also feature two women’s matches.

“That’s a standard for us, we always try to have two ladies matches. I get a lot of feedback at the fairs and they all say you’ve got to have that. We’re probably the only promotion in Ontario that’s running that. It’s rare to see a Ladies match to begin with, let alone two.”

Courtney Rush returns to Tillsonburg for the first time in more than a year to wrestle Leah Von Dutch. The second women’s match will be for the Ladies Title, Jewells Malone vs Ianna Titus.

“Jewells won the belt in Petrolia and she’s had several title defences. It was vacated by Cherry Bomb at the time.”

Sunday’s Lancashire Cup Championship match features Cezar, the Lancashire champ, taking on John Greed.

“John’s a newcomer, he’s been training at the Squared Circle in Toronto. A big boy, so it’ll be another of those hard-hitting battles. Look for a lot of big moves between the two of them.”

Sunday’s show will also have a Tag Team match. The Big Money Titans – Mr. Atlantis and Killer Allan Coulter – facing Freak Show and Reck.

“It’s the little guys you’ve got to watch out for,” Freak laughed.

Tickets for Sunday’s show are $15 adults, $7 kids, or $10 in advance at Chrissy’s Convenience Store, Tillson Convenience, M&J Tire, and the Tillsonburg Legion.

TRAINING SEMINAR

“Before the show there will be a training seminar with Robbie E,” McDonald noted.

The seminar, a first at the Tillsonburg Legion, will run from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. (The CCW show begins at 2 p.m.).

“It will be for working wrestlers and/or anybody who’s interested in getting into the business.

“It’s only $40 and you get ring-time with a former TNA champion. For two hours he’s going to go over character, basics, putting a match together… It’ll be similar to what we did with Greg Valentine, but it will be before the show.

“And if you attend the seminar, you’re going to have a shot at first row seats, too, because you’re already in the building.”

Under-18 participants will need a waiver signed by a parent, said McDonald.

“Robbie would be more than happy to have kids in there, and talk about wrestling. Do some front rolls, stuff like what we did at the fairs. But you need parental approval to sign the waiver.”
