Bags and bags and bags of pennies

Article content

We had an extremely exciting time here at SHS. We just finished our penny drive, as well as the Souper Bowl. Also, we went to the church for a great Ash Wednesday mass, and every Friday during Lent we will be going to mass.

Finishing up our penny drive we had bags and bags of pennies brought in! Thank-you to everyone who brought in their spare pennies. We had an astonishing 20 bags. That’s $500 in pennies collected in total!

This means that about 20 people will receive clean water for life. Thank you to “Free the Children,” Miss Oud and Miss Howard for organizing this collection.

As well, our cans of soup for the “Souper Bowl” have been picked up by representatives from the Port Rowan Food Bank. We managed to bring in 184 cans. Good job to all of the students! A big thank-you goes out to all who brought in cans of soup for this worthy cause.

We had an amazing Ash Wednesday mass, thanks to Father Slawek. To further help us prepare for Easter during this Lenten season, he has invited us to join him at mass each Friday morning during lent. As well, the junior and intermediate students participate in prayers for Stations of the Cross. We encourage others to join us at Sacred Heart Church on Friday mornings.

We hope to see you there next time!
