Love away in 2013

Article content

Hope everyone is over the worst of the celebrating by now and well on your way to a healthy, prosperous and loving New Year.

I don’t make resolutions but have worked out every day since well before Christmas. Slipped up a bit on what I ate during the holidays but I am back on track now. So I am doing OK on the healthy part and now on to the prosperous part. Not likely going to win a lottery – kinda have to buy tickets for that – and finding a job at this stage of the game is highly unlikely so I have to be creative if I want to prosper.

Morgan sometimes calls me cheap but I like to think of it as prudent. He’ll learn.

We all have our own interpretation of loving. Got this email a while back. It’s called, What does love mean? This question was asked of four to eight-year-olds. It is quite enlightening. Here is what love is in all its variations.

Rebecca, 8 – When my grandmother got arthritis she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore so my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love!

Billy, 4 – When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.

Chrissy, 6 – Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.

Terri, 4 – Love is what makes you smile even when you’re tired.

Danny, 7 – Love is when my mom makes coffee for my dad and she takes a sip before giving it to him to make sure the taste is OK.

Bobby, 7 – Love is what is in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.

Nikka, 6 – If you want to learn to love better you should start with a friend who you hate!

Noelle, 7 – Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt and he wears it every day.

Tommy, 6 – Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.

Clare, 6 – My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don’t see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.

Elaine, 5 – Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.

Mary Ann, 4 – Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.

Karen, 7 – When you love somebody your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.

Mark, 6 – Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and doesn’t think it’s gross.

Jessica, 8 – You really shouldn’t say, “I love you” unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.

A four-year-old child lived next door to an elderly man who just lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry the little boy went up on the porch, climbed up onto his lap and just sat there. His mother asked what he said to the neighbour he said, “Nothing, I just helped him cry!”

Now you know how, so love away in 2013.
