Delhi tourney - Day 3

Two local house league hockey teams reached Day 3 of the annual Delhi Rockets Novice Peewee Bantam local league hockey tournament Saturday.

Tillsonburg Demaiter Real Estate Inc. bantams, fourth in the preliminary round, knocked out Delhi 5-2 Saturday morning to reach the semifinals. But Beverly, who shut out Tillsonburg 1-0 Friday night, prevailed 4-1 Saturday afternoon.

Demaiter Real Estate’s Tyler Stevens gave Tillsonburg a 1-0 lead early in the first period, rifling home a rebound from the edge of the crease, assisted by Nathan Toombs and Tyler Pilkey.

Beverly, seeded No. 1 after the preliminary round, struggled offensively until late in the second period when they scored back-to-back goals in a 49-second span. The Bandits added two more in the third, the final goal coming on a power play, to seal the 4-1 win.

Tillsonburg scoring: 1. Riley Maertens (Tyler Pilkey, Tyler Stevens); 2. Ryan Crandall (Travis Puhr); 3. Tyler Stevens (Tyler Pilkey, Isaac Overton); 4. Ryan Crandall (Ronnie Kalle); 5. Tyler Stevens (Dayton Franklin, Tory Haggith).

Delhi scoring: 1. Nikoda Walsh; 2. Jared Boughner (Seth Ladosz, Ryan Ruel).

The Langton Leafs novices met the hosts, Delhi Rockets, in a novice final Saturday afternoon.

Unlike Friday’s game between the same two teams, which Delhi won 2-1 – and all the other preliminary round games – Saturday’s game was not decided by a one-goal margin.

The Rockets captured the novice tournament championship winning 6-0 powered by a pair of goals from Dylan VanSchalkwyk and Jeffery Cassada. Nick Moyce had a goal and three assists.
