Five a.m. comes particularly early these days

Article content

The days seem very long when you get up at 5 a.m.

I know there are work commitments that force some folks to do this all the time. I do remember these early mornings when I had to be in the field by 7 a.m. I don’t think you ever get used to it but it does become a way of living after a while.

Morgan has joined the wrestling team at St. Mary’s. I think this is my punishment for not allowing him to play football. He did play one year but kind of messed up his hip and knee so to prevent permanent damage football was taken off the list of acceptable school activities. Besides I had to go pick him up every day in Woodstock because practice was after school.

Wrestling training, on the other hand, is held before school, hence the early morning hour but it’s only twice a week. We also provide a ride for a friend who lives in Ingersoll, which is a bit of a side trip on our way to Woodstock from Otterville.

When I get home I throw in a couple loads of laundry and do a few chores before sitting down for a coffee and breakfast and always find it shocking that it is only 8:10 a.m. I get lots done in the morning but am ready for a nap by 10 a.m. Throw in a same day hockey practice at 9:30 at night and I am done for two days. I can’t imagine having to run around with more than one.

I’ve never been too shy about sharing my thoughts. If something isn’t as it should be, I have been known to complain or, at least, ask why. I once asked Hanes why, after you wash a three-pack of underwear, they are not all the same size. If you have had those packaged cotton underwear you know what I mean. The company offered no explanation or even an apology asking me instead to send them my underwear. I just stopped buying them.

The new packaging for the six-pack bottles of Pepsi is another new invention I feel is just wrong. With the side handle the bottles dangle about when carrying them and you can’t set them down with one hand. They pulled the environment card on me and said I was the only person to complain. Lots of folks complain but they just don’t complain to them.

Recently, I needed some heavy-duty glue. I got out a bottle of Gorilla Glue I bought about a year ago but hadn’t yet opened. I cut the top off the nozzle but nothing came out. The glue was solid so I set the bottle in hot water for some time but it never "reliquified." I looked them up on the Internet and contacted them asking if microwaving would work or if they had any other solution to soften up this bottle.

I received a reply within in an hour with an explanation of what likely happened and telling me that once solidified the glue cannot be liquefied. They apologized and stated a new bottle would be sent to me within two days. They even asked if I preferred a bottle or single use tubes.

I was quite shocked being more used to excuses. I didn’t expect a replacement for the Gorilla Glue any more than I did the underwear or a free six-pack of Pepsi. I just thought they should know some of their customers had issues and maybe rethink their sizing or packaging.

Kudos to you Gorilla Glue. It is pretty great to know there are still companies out there who are sincere about customer satisfaction and service.
